Today's non reading adventure was mostly around the reflecting pool in DC. The WWII memorial is a stunning addition to the Mall and gets me choked up every time. It's gorgeous! The Lincoln Memorial was my kids' favorite!

My kiddo won our state‘s National Geographic Bee so he‘s headed to DC for nationals next month! Never been so I‘d love to hear what book stores we should visit. Aside from Politics and Prose, of course 😀

Kaye Congrats ! Love to see kids that are enthused about learning. 6y
ChrisM Congrats!! That‘s awesome!! 6y

My husband and I just found out that we‘re moving to the DC area! We‘ll be house hunting relatively soon... anyone have any recommendations for great book stores, libraries, or cafes in NOVA or the DC-area? #priorities #dc #nova

MrBook Ohhhh, shoot. I know there's a few Littens in the D.C. area 🤔. @BarbaraTheBibliophage , you've been helping to compile where everyone's located. Anyone in or near the DC area to help out a great Litten? (edited) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MrBook Hmmm. That‘s not me. I know Pennsylvania people, but not too many beyond. Let‘s see ... who can I think of? @BookishFeminist @TheNextBook are two that come to mind. I‘m pretty sure they can tag others as well. 6y
MrBook @BarbaraTheBibliophage Two fantastic Littens! 6y

TheNextBook @marywag08 welcome to the area!!!! We have Politics & Prose in DC and One More Page Books in Arlington those are the two that pop to mind the quickest! there‘s also Busboys&Poets which have books and great food! @RebeccaSpeas @Merethebookgal @JPeterson What do you guys think? 6y
theokiereader Wow, thank you @MrBook @BarbaraTheBibliophage and @TheNextBook !! We‘re house hunting in a few weeks, so I‘ll definitely check them out!! We‘re probably going to live in the Alexandria/Springfield/Burke area, so I‘m guessing One More Page would be the closest one? 6y
JPeterson I seconded what @TheNextBook said! Politics & Prose and One More Page Books is excellent! There is also Kramerbooks (which is a bar/restaurant/bookstore combo) and East City Books in DC as well. 😊 6y
RebeccaSpeas I‘m the Events Coordinator at One More Page, so definitely come check us out!! :) I also love East City Bookshop in Eastern Market, Upshur Books in Petworth, and if you do the used book shuffle, McKay‘s Books out in Manassas is pretty rad 6y
theokiereader @JPeterson A bar/restaurant/bookstore combo? What more could a girl want?! @RebeccaSpeas I‘ll definitely come check it out! Thanks, everyone! It‘s always nice to find a good bookstore when we‘re adjusting to a new city! 6y
Merethebookgal Welcome to the area! We‘re so lucky to have a bunch of indie book stores in the area! I frequent East City and One More Page the most. A new store that opened recently up on H Street is called Solid State Books, and there‘s one on King street in Alexandria called Hooray for Books, but I believe it‘s more geared towards children. 6y
Merethebookgal Oh and the library systems around here are awesome! A bunch of them have an agreement that you can get Library cards for counties you don‘t live in, so far I have cards for Arlington, Fairfax, D.C., and Prince William! It‘s a huge help for checking out ebooks and audiobooks! 6y

📜🖋🛫 🚅 Long weekend away. Wondering how the town will be...

becausetrains @Jess_Read_This somewhere between shock, terror, despair, and white-hot fury. Gradually edging toward the latter. 7y
Jess_Read_This @becausetrains It was rather quiet where we were. The Uber drivers kept commenting on how light traffic was and wondering if folks were just staying in. I found it kind of eery. But once the weekend hit, tons of folk seemed to venture out. 7y
becausetrains @Jess_Read_This what part of town were you in? I'm down in Alexandria and it seemed remarkably busy 7y
Jess_Read_This We stayed in DuPont Circle. I live in MI so thought it was fairly busy until the Uber drivers started describing how it normally is. @becausetrains 7y

Decided to spend Thanksgiving break in DC and Virginia this year, because why not? I am equal parts excited and overwhelmed at the thought of traveling as a single mom with my two girls, navigating an area I am unfamiliar with. But also proud of myself for going for it! Hoping to make some amazing travel memories!

SusanInTiburon Oh, have a wonderful time! 8y
Notafraidofwords Have a wonderful time that sounds exciting! 8y
Zelma I love DC. So much to do and see there! You will have a fabulous trip. 8y
