Nine Princes in Amber
Nine Princes in Amber: Amber #1 | Roger Zelazny

Bored, listing nine favourites, part 6: Technically the entire Amber Cycle but here's the first one: Nine Princes In Amber. A man wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory of who he is or how he got there, other than that he's been overdrugged for a while. Then it gets weirder; the Amber books are secondary world fantasy about the dynastic struggle over the true world, the one of the which every other world, including our own, is just a shadow.⬇️

annamatopoetry Was NOT a success in book club, everyone else disliked it. But it comes off as stereotypical because it's OLD, it was published in 1970, and was successful enough to be copied. And I love Corwin and his fucked up family so much. I may have to reread this now that I dragged it out of the bookshelf. 3y

“I like libraries. It makes me feel comfortable and secure to have walls of words, beautiful and wise, all around me. I always feel better when I can see that there is something to hold back the shadows.”

Remembering Roger Zelazny on his birthday.

A beautiful Easton Press edition but unfortunately oil pretty much hated this book. I‘m working on a video idea for my booktube channel, otherwise I would have DNF‘d. The amnesia thing was annoying, the anticlimactic ending to literally every problem was just pathetic.

SpaceCowboyBooks Zelazny is hit or miss. 4y

So this was nothing like what I expected but I enjoyed every minute of it. It doesn‘t really stand alone because there are various threads left hanging but I definitely liked it enough to keep going with the series.

Started Nine Princes in Amber today and was soon joined by my little reading buddy. I went into this one cold and it did not start out at all like I expected it to. #CatsOfLitsy

Look how beautiful this is and it‘s a library book! I also don‘t think it‘s every been read before, the binding is still very tight and creaky when you open it. Neat!

It‘s #manicmonday and with the #lettern I found it hard to stick to one choice and changed my answers multiple times.

📖 Nine Princes In Amber by Roger Zelazny
✏️ Sylvain Neuvel
📺 Nowhere Man
🎥 Night of the Living Dead
🌮 Nacho Cheese Doritos (At least it was 5 years and 300lbs ago)

My answers were almost NOS4R2, Nikita, Naked Gun but changed my mind. Such is the ways of N.

bunny Glad to see another Nowhere Man fan! 5y
MicheleinPhilly You lost 300 pounds???? Well done! 5y
Guildedearlobe @bunny I watched it when it first came out and again recently. I always wondered where it would go if it hadn‘t been canceled. (edited) 5y
Guildedearlobe @MicheleinPhilly Thanks. It was worth it, although I do occasionally miss junk food. 5y

“There is Shadow and there is Substance, and this is the root of all things. Of Substance, there is only Amber, the real city, upon the real Earth, which contains everything. Of Shadow, there is an infinitude of things. Every possibility exists somewhere as a Shadow of the real.” #shadows #QuotsyApril18

I'm sort of cheating for #NovemberbytheNumbers #9 because I've already posted about this book recently, but it's the only book I own with nine in the title, unless you count 1984 or 1985! This one I have read, and it's to blame for sidetracking me from my #LitsyAtoZ reads. Once I start a series, I have to binge!

I see someone else thought of #Nine Princes in Amber for #novemberbythenumbers. I had a good time reading this book (and first four others in the Amber Chronicles), but ultimately wasn‘t a huge fan and didn‘t continue the series.

Well, I don't really have a favourite from October; I had 6 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ reads and 3 ⭐️⭐️ reads. However, I did have fun reading 80s teen romance novels for #HorrifiedReads! Thanks for the trip down memory lane @RestlessFickleBookSlut! I only made it through 4 out of the 50+ stack, so I think I might keep on reading them. It's been quite the experience! #SpookyOctober #OctoberFavorites #UncannyOctober #BestofOctober

Sace Obviously I've been horrible at my own reading challenge. I was just thinking the other day that I'm going to keep reading them beyond October. 6y

Book one of the Chronicles of Amber ended up being my choice for Z. I originally intended to read a zombie graphic novel, but I just don't have the mindset for that sort of thing right now. This book was different than what I expected, but I enjoyable. I found Zelazny's writing a bit inconsistent, so mostly I liked it, but at times it seemed rushed and a bit rough. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. 3.5⭐️ #LitsyAtoZ

GondorGirl Oh my god, that cover art is AMAZING! ❤😂❤ 6y
CoffeeCatsBooks I remember reading this series as a kid, but it drove crazy because my library was missing books in the series. As an adult, finally got and read the omnibus edition. 6y

#StayoutSaturday: as in stay out of my way, I'm reading? Or let's go out and stay out late? Or that house looks haunted so maybe we should stay out? Anyway, this is Stay Put Saturday for me. It's been a cold, gloomy, rainy day so I've hardly strayed from the couch except to get more tea. #Hallowreads

'Nine Princes in Amber' is an enjoyable fantasy romp with an interesting premise and a likable lead character. The prose is nothing to write home about, but the story moves quickly and engages really effectively from start to finish. Would recommend to fantasy lovers.
