The Fade Out #1
The Fade Out #1 | Ed Brubaker
9 posts | 11 read | 7 to read
The first project from their groundbreaking five-year deal at Image will have ED BRUBAKER and SEAN PHILLIPS fans, old and new, at the edge of their seats, as they weave an epic crime story unlike anything they've done before. Hollywood - 1948. A noir film stuck in endless reshoots. A writer plagued with nightmares from the war and a dangerous secret. An up-and-coming starlet's suspicious death. And a maniacal Studio Mogul and his Security Chief who will do anything to keep the cameras rolling before the Post-War boom days come crashing down. THE FADE OUT is the most ambitious series yet from the award-winning Noir Masters. Bonus: This 40-PAGE FIRST ISSUE features more story pages, as well as exclusive back pages articles that are only in these single issues!

Studios had been covering up murder.... since at least the roaring twenties.

So good! Highly recommend to lovers of mystery, the golden age of Hollywood, and graphic novels. First learned about this trilogy from @Clwojick and I‘m so glad I did- thank you! Can‘t wait to gobble up volumes 2 and 3 of this noir murder #mystery! #graphicnovel

This was a fun and easy new graphic novel series to get into. It was a quick read, and I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for the next few volumes. 📚

Charlie, an alcoholic screenwriter, stumbles upon a murdered starlet and studio cover-up. The plot is set during the Communist blacklists of studio execs. Great art. Noir like theme. Loving it!

MadCatRamble I loved it so much. So seedy and old Hollywood 😊 7y

This is so satisfying. I'm a huge geek about Hollywood in the 40's, and so far, The Fade Out is the prettiest, most pitch perfect love letter to the era, the failing studio system and post-WWII L.A. I can't wait to get my hands on Acts 2 and 3.

Mmm...noir-y!
Pretty good mystery. Lots of old Hollywood tropes ...but with extra boobs. Generally liked the art (the covers are to die for!). Very grisly (the art) which fit the seedy underworld of Hollywood plot. Hope to pick up the next volume.

Awk_Word_Smith I enjoyed this Brubaker run. I need to read it straight through as I had collected the single issues, so it felt choppy to me. But I imagine that was because I had to wait for the next issue to come out. LOVED the artwork, for sure. 8y
