The Day of the Storm
The Day of the Storm | Rosamunde Pilcher
2 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
On the last day of her mother's life, Rebecca learns she has a family in Cornwall, and sets out to find the grandfather and cousin she has never known. But only the enigmatic Joss Gardner, the outsider who seems to be the apple of her grandfather's eye, can help her understand the dark currents that lie behind her family's loving reception, in The Day of the Storm. When you read a novel by Rosamunde Pilcher you enter a special world where emotions sing from the heart. A world that lovingly captures the ties that bind us to one another-the joys and sorrows, heartbreaks and misunderstandings, and glad, perfect moments when we are in true harmony. A world filled with evocative, engrossing, and above all, enjoyable portraits of people's lives and loves, tenderly laid open for us...

I would like to take a wee nap. I would also like to keep reading this, now that I've finally gotten back into it. What a conundrum. 😏

Nute A nap always sounds delightful to me.🙂 3y

I'm in a book crisis. Ever since The Election From Hell, I've been too tense & distraught to read. And I long to loose myself in a book! My current fab read AMERICANAH is taking me back to Obama's campaign & election. That's upsetting & painful to remember. Then I picked up THE ASSISTANTS & it's about a powerful white media mogul - gah. So I've pulled out the big guns - a book my Grandma gave me - by Pilcher. I'm embarrassed but it feels right 😳

vivastory @CoffeeAndABook There's always escapist literature. Everyone I know picked up a fun read in order to recuperate from election. I read a Grady Hendrix book to escape. 7y

TrishB Pilcher - some great escapism! 7y
readingonarainyday I think we'll all need some escapist lit for the next four years! So don't worry about it! 7y

CoffeeAndABook @rubyslippersreads @Faibka Yeah it is (sigh...) - I agree! And they do help🎆 7y
CoffeeAndABook @Foxyfictionista @Annl You're absolutely right!🤘🏻✊🏻🤘🏻 7y
CoffeeAndABook @LeahBergen @TrishB I haven't enjoyed a book as much in quite a while 🔥🌱 7y
vivastory @CoffeeAndABook Are you familiar with Paul Tremblay? 7y
CoffeeAndABook @readingonarainyday Oh man - isn't it fortunate that Pilcher wrote that many novels?! 😉But you're right - even if escapism doesn't solve all the problems, it's SO good to find relief of the tension & stress. I'm happily pleased with this Pilcher book. Hope you're enjoying your book, too, and having a good Sunday 🙂🙋 7y
CoffeeAndABook @vivastory No I'm not - yet - but I've just looked up his books & added one to my stack!! Thanks so much 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
vivastory @CoffeeAndABook Which one did you add? If it's "Head Full of Ghosts" or "Disappearance at Devil's Rock" then tag me when you've finished and we can exchange thoughts. 7y
CoffeeAndABook @vivastory I added one with the narcoleptic detective but I'll check those two out as well!! And will certainly get back to you if I read them 👍🏻 7y
readingonarainyday @CoffeeAndABook I haven't read anything by Pilcher so I'll be keeping her in mind when I'm in need of something escapist. I usually do funny memoirs or light women's fiction when I'm down so I'm glad to add to that list! 7y
