The Trouble with Flirting
The Trouble with Flirting | Claire LaZebnik
6 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
Franny's supposed to be working this summer, not flirting. But you can't blame her when guys like Alex and Harry are around. . . . Franny Pearson never dreamed she'd be attending the prestigious Mansfield Summer Theater Program. And she's not, exactly. She's working for her aunt, the resident costume designer. But sewing her fingers to the bone does give her an opportunity to spend time with her crush, Alex Braverman. If only he were as taken with the girl hemming his trousers as he is with his new leading lady. When Harry Cartwright, a notorious flirt, shows more than a friendly interest in Franny, she figures it can't hurt to have a little fun. But as their breezy romance grows more complicated, can Franny keep pretending that Harry is just a carefree fling? And why is Alex suddenly giving her those deep, meaningful looks? In this charming tale of mixed messages and romantic near-misses, one thing is clear: Flirting might be more trouble than Franny ever expected.

Pickpick

This was a cute YA retelling of Austen‘s Mansfield Park, set against the backdrop of a summer theater program. Much like the original, there were lots of times when I wanted to throttle some of the characters! 😂
But it was fun to see the changes the author made and it was a quick, fun read.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I read Seeking Mansfield for my YA interpretation & quite enjoyed it haha 3y
sprainedbrain I‘m glad you liked it! 3y
OriginalCyn620 @TheAromaofBooks I want to read that one too - eventually! 3y
TheAromaofBooks So there are three books altogether. The first one is a riff on MP & the third one is a retelling of Emma, & both of those were really good. The middle one is just... a story... & I found it rather dreadful (mainly because it undeveloped all of Bk1's character development?!?!?!), but one could totally read just books 1 & 3 without missing anything haha 3y

This looks like a fun take on Mansfield Park and was available through my library on the Libby app, so I‘m gonna give it a shot!

Just starting this YA retelling of Mansfield Park set at a theater camp (as I am also listening to the BBC radio play of Mansfield Park). Contemporary Austen + theater setting = catnip

Claire LaZebnik writes modern day retellings of Jane Austen novels. This one rewrites my least favorite- Mansfield Park. I really enjoyed the changes she made although I might have been less enthused if it were based on a book I cared for more. #homage #feistyfeb
