This is what it looks like when your library will only go to 1,000 books and you have a nerdy mom and a former teacher grandma :)

Avanders !! Love it 🤩 2y
Bklover I hope Bread and Jam for Frances is on the lis! All three of my kids say it‘s their favorite from childhood. (Plus it always makes everyone hungry for spaghetti.) 2y
BethM @Bklover I need to get that for him to read! I forgot about that book. 2y

Some good news to kick off the new year: this amazing accomplishment was posted in a local library‘s Facebook feed. The library‘s website reports that they recently signed up the 100th participant in this program.

gradcat Yay! Keep reading, kids!! 5y

Has anyone seen this app? The idea is to read your child 1,000 books before they start kindergarten. The app helps you keep track of what books you've read (which is awesome for an organization geek like me). We've got a long way to go, but it's fun to keep track!

smilingshelves @Bucklingbkshelf Have you discovered this yet? 6y
BucklingBookshelves @smilingshelves I have seen it! I tried doing it when when son was really little but gave up on it. It just felt like more work that just was duplicating my Goodreads “little man” shelf and I think I ran into a bunch of books not in their library too, so I ended up abandoning it. 6y
BucklingBookshelves @smilingshelves oh! And my library has an early literacy program that‘s similar — 1000 “literacy activities” before kindergarten. I couldn‘t stand keeping up with that app either, but then they did an old-school paper sheet I can just mark off as we go (and if I forget, I just fill in 2 a day because we do a minimum of that without even trying!) and hand in when it‘s full (250 at a time) and that‘s WAY more my speed these days 😊 6y

smilingshelves @Bucklingbkshelf I created a whole Goodreads account for my son, but I haven't been keeping up with that very well. This app is working better for me right now. What sort of literacy activities are in your library's program? That sounds intriguing. 6y
BucklingBookshelves If the app is easier for you that‘s awesome! I like to keep things simple — but my simple won‘t be the same as everyone else‘s 😊 They basically say reading, singing, and playing games at home counts as well as attending any library programs or storytimes. I really just log story sessions (I.e. naptime, bedtime etc.) because if we counted each individual book or song (including repeats!) like they say we can, we‘d have 1000 done already! Lol (edited) 6y
smilingshelves @Bucklingbkshelf That sounds like a fun program, and pretty easy to accomplish, I agree. I'm trying to just log unique books we read, rather than every repeat reading, too. That would definitely boost the numbers! 6y

#Giveaway alert from @BookishTrish who has gained 1k followers! 🎉

Thanks to Litsy I have added over 100 books to my TBR in the past six months. (That's over 100 that are directly attributable to Litsy and that I still haven't read. 😆)

I just finished organizing all my books and scanning them into Goodreads. 991 books. I personally own 991 books. This doesn‘t include my husband‘s books, the kids‘ books, books I‘m borrowing, books from the library...

This is also not all of my bookshelves. 😂 #shelfie @jess.how - I should have saved this for today! I didn‘t realize the #spookyoctober prompt was shelfie today.

mcipher You only need a few more! 😂👍 Shelves look great. 🤗 7y
Krisjericho @mcipher Hahaha! Right?! So frustrating. It would have been cool to have an even 1000. I did find another after I posted, so I‘m at 992. 7y

My son and I went to a new library today and got a second library card, and they have this program to encourage families to read with their kids: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. The pamphlet says if you read one book a day to your child, you'll be able to read 1,000 in three years. My son starts kindergarten in three months. So he says, "Let's do this!" I've read 11 picture books today so far, and we're not to bedtime yet. ? #raisingareader

Lacythebookworm Love it! 😍 7y
Texreader Oh isn't he the cutest! You go guys!!! Love this! 7y
BookFreakOut Aww, so cute! Let us know if you crack 1000 in that time frame! 🙌 But of course any number of books is better than no books. 😊 7y

silentrequiem That is so cute. I love it! 7y
Laalaleighh I read 150 books the summer between kindergarten and first grade and to this day my grandmother proudly tells people that fact about me. But seriously becoming a reader young was the most important thing I think that ever happened to me in my life. You're giving your kid such an awesome gift. 7y
readinginthedark @BookFreakOut Will do! I promised him a sticker and prize from me when we completed the challenge, even if it wasn't in time to get a prize from the library. We read so many books; we could probably make it 1/3 or 1/2 of the way without trying! 7y
readinginthedark @Laalaleighh Oh, I know, I read so much! He hasn't learned yet, but sight words come pretty easily to him. When I was young, our principal would come to the class and let you cut off a piece of his tie every time you read 100 books. I have a lot of pieces of tie lying around... 😂 7y
