Excellent narrator. I watched the movie before reading the book, so my impressions are skewed. It was strange to me how it was written for young adults or children (Scholastic), but the themes felt very adult with graphic scenes. I appreciate the Peter Jackson made the movie feel more like it was for adults. The characters were alright but it was the settings that were most imaginative. And Shrike.

For ten years now the London has been taking over land. The Lord Mayor has discovered a new area in Europe that he can rule over the land. I think the author started the story like this to let us know the the type of things that happen and the history of the people in the story.

Have to go with a so-so on this one. The story seemed like a jumble events before it ever got to the point, and too many characters died. It is a unique concept though. Another #bookspinbonanza book down. 😊📚📖 #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Mortal Engines Series Book 1
I highly enjoyed this book because of the steampunk era and medieval London. I loved the characters and how the story went along. I rate this book an 8/10 because of the emotions and because I loved how “mechanical“ the time period was (?) Recommended to people who love science fiction, and action-packed plots.

Hubbie once asked me about this series, but we both decided that it sounded like to much YA and to little Sci-Fi. Still, as it happens, I still came along this book and listened to the audio book.

And loved it!

It's unlike the kind of YA I thought it would be and that's great. I loved the world that reminded me of Dune. There are also other hints on sci-fi classics, those I really enjoyed as well.

I've had to ditch this one for now, it's not a bad book, and held myy interest for a while, but it's dribbled off now.
It's not the books fault, it's mine.
Can't seem to stay focused at the moment.

I loved this book, middle class being thrown into poverty and anti establishment themes are my wheelhouse. I may be projecting but the book feels like a commentary on late stage capitalism. It was a great fantasy book and a fun read, I don't think there could have been any plausible happy ending but understand the need for one. Despite the themes I mentioned it isn't a heavy book and is a good way read or listen

After hearing about the movie months ago, I knew I had to read the book first. As much as I enjoyed it, I couldn't say that I will finish the series. The idea is so steampunk and cool, however the book just seems to drag. The fact that the main character isn't flawless is one if the main things about the book I liked as its different yet obvious. I do prefer the movie, only because I felt it was faster and more action packed.

It's definitely an interesting world concept...a post-apocalyptic planet created when the continents shifted, it's devoid of digital tech & most of our historical records; entire cities wheel themselves across the globe gobbling up smaller cities for parts. The human element is a familiar story - men in power grasping for tech that will provide them global domination stomps on the little guy once too often & unwittingly unleashes a revolution.

I like to stay pretty focussed, 1 physical book, 1 audiobook. How bout you? How many books are you juggling regularly? #questions

brit91 WoW! Not me I only read one at a time lol🤣😂 5y

batsy I tend to have one physical book and one ebook going at the same time. But if I'm in a group read or two, it has gone up to 3 or 4 at the same time, which does make me a bit anxious 🙃 5y
5feet.of.fury @batsy @JacqMac 1 in each format I can understand, I can see adding here and there if it‘s for a Book Club and you‘re reading along. (edited) 5y
5feet.of.fury @Exbrarian 📚📚that‘s quite a few, what your secret to keeping the stories straight? 5y
Exbrarian @5feet.of.fury No secret. I read pretty widely and I don't usually have 2 similar books going at once. At the moment, I have a Graphic Novel, a classic paperback, a classic chunkster via Serial Reader, a Contemporary Fiction ebook via Libby, an audiobook, a book club hardback, a reference book (that I am reading straight through), a book of short stories written by a friend, a book of poetry, and Atlas about countries that no longer exist. 5y

Absolutely loved this book. I loved the characters and how easily the plot flowed. I did start to get a little bit annoyed when there was no explanation on what had happened to society to result in this way of life. However, with one sentence half way through the book i was given the answer. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Good world building but disappointing characters and derivative story. There is a disappointing tendency for steampunk books‘ protagonists to be impossibly innocent and naive- a complicated world with an infantile protagonist lets the entire story down.

I don‘t read too much YA, but glad that I picked this up at the library. London (and other cities) are on the move, gobbling up smaller cities and towns over devastated ground. There are other cities that are static, high in the mountains protected by a Great Wall;there are airship pirates, lethal undying cyborgs, a boy engineer and a girl who wants revenge in this fast steampunk fantasy. And I have a mad crush on the pirate/spy/assassin Anna Fang

erzascarletbookgasm My teenager recently read this and look forward to read the rest in the series. 5y
Tonton @erzascarletbookgasm I think there are 3 more volumes! 5y

Part 1 of 3: 1000 years in the future where towns move on wheels, called "traction towns", that eat other towns (people become slaves, metals used for fuel to keep the predator town moving), all set during post a apocalyptic world where "the ancients" have destroyed the planet.
Tom Natsworthy, Hester Shaw & Kate Valentine (all 15-16 yrs old) save the world from the recreation of a bomb using relics. It's a teen book.

A wildly original dystopian premise, with frustrating characters. Hester, while being a badass physically-handicapped would-be assassin is repeatedly mentioned as “ugly” as if it‘s her only trait. And Tom‘s main “growth” is loving her despite her ugliness. Ugh no thanks. I can see how it would translate well to the big screen, but I‘m wondering how they made the audience care what happened to them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I‘ve been in Dallas for my initial visit with the headache center at Baylor, so I‘ve been out of touch for a few days, but I did receive a birthday gift from my mom while I was there! 😊

Lizpixie How did the headache centre visit go? My migraines are forcing me to find one for myself lately.🤕 5y
NovelGirl82 @Lizpixie It went really well, thanks for asking. The neurologist I saw was wonderful & really knowledgeable. She diagnosed me with 3 different types of headaches: chronic migraine (which I knew), chronic tension, and medication rebound headaches (from using too much excedrin migraine). They started me on one of the new monthly injections that was just approved, that will hopefully help decrease the frequency of my migraines. ⬇️ 5y
NovelGirl82 My homework is to attempt to decrease the frequency of use of excedrin migraine. She was able to write my script for my rescue med where my insurance will cover is better, so that should help. And I should attempt to do something about the tension (massages, maybe?). I‘ll return every 3 months for now. If this doesn‘t work, we‘ll try a different approach. @Lizpixie 5y
