Scotland
Scotland: 1000 Things You Need to Know | Edwin Moore
4 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Covering all the need-to-knows, from bagpipes to Billy Connolly, this collection is the real McCoy, a comprehensive guide to Caledonia and its remarkable people. As the proud possessors of a fiercely independent creative heritage, the Scots were a race apart even before Hadrian built the wall. Scotland has produced an indomitable bunch of fighters, builders, thinkers and drinkers, poets, players, and pedagogues that have shaped the course of modern history. Edwin Moore has gathered together more than 1,000 facts about its monarchs, heroes, and rogues; battles, scandals, and great trials; food and (of course) drink; legends, folklore, and sports--for starters--and presents them here in easily digestible, scone-sized portions. This is the perfect gift for anyone curious about the connection between Homer Simpson and small Scottish town Larbert, or about whether both Barack Obama and John McCain can really be descended from a Scottish Lion.

My reading spot for the day on the South-West Coast of Scotland, another sunny and surprisingly for Scotland hot day. Here we are overlooking Luce Bay near Monreith in Dumfries and Galloway. The land in the back ground is The Isle Of Man - what an idyllic place, and idyllic day to read!

booksandsympathy Gorgeous. I didn't realize you could see the Isle of Man from the southern part of Scotland. 6y

TrishB Gorgeous 💕 6y
Andrew65 @booksandsympathy Neither did we until we visited this area a couple of years ago. This is about as close as you can get to The Isle Of Man on Scottish mainland and best view we have seen so far, it wouldn‘t show up on the iPad camera but also tonight (for the first time) to the far right of this picture you could also see a bit of the hills of Ireland (Northern Ireland I think). 6y
Andrew65 @BookwormM @meghan2714 @margreads @TrishB It is beautiful isn‘t it, and even more so with the wonderful weather today. 6y
MStew @Andrew65 im jealous!!! I wanna go to Scotland like yesterday thats where my ❤ is 😄😄😄🤗🤗 6y
Andrew65 @erinreads We live In the north of England, but usually end up spending most of our holidays in Scotland. Always feel ourselves relax as soon as we cross the border. At the end of the week we head to the far North of Scotland which is like our second home. 6y
Andrew65 @meghan2714 I‘d agree with you, it is where our heart is too! You have to usually put up with some indifferent weather but nowhere more beautiful when it is sunny, which makes it all worthwhile. Will try to post some more pictures at some point. 6y
erinreads @Andrew65 Sounds heavenly! Hope the rest of your holiday is just as relaxing! 6y
Andrew65 @erinreads That would be idyllic! 😊 6y

An interesting read if you don‘t know much about Scotland. It‘d be easy to read in bits because there are main topics and then short blurbs within the category (whether people, places or things). I grabbed this thinking it might help me plan what to do during our upcoming vacation. It wasn‘t very helpful in that regard, but interesting nonetheless! It also apparently smells good. #lennox #catsoflitsy

“...envision redcoats driving ethereal Enya-like figures off their ‘wee bit hill and glen‘. “ Enya-like!!! I love it. Reading this for trip research. Didn‘t expect it to be this funny. #scotland
