Its nothing like co-ed club hockey back in Georgia! First of all? Theres checking. And then, there is there is Jackour very attractive but moody captain. A collection of the first half of the megapopular webcomic series ofthe same name, Check, Please!: #Hockey is the first book of ahilarious and stirring two-volume coming-of-age story about hockey, bros, andtrying to find yourself during the best four years of your life.

This was a super cute comic about a vlogger, figure skater turned hockey player named Eric and his first couple of years at college. He happens to be gay and loves to bake. Super adorable. You get the camaraderie, the house life, the parties, the bro-life, the fights, the hockey. Good for cleansing the palette. Thanks again @quietjenn for the book!!!

CarolynM Got to love a gay hockey player😉😄 4mo

4.5 stars - a great GN that helped me understand a little more hockey lingo and had a great storyline. I like that Bittle is a vlogger and was praised for his amazing cooking. A great GN that I will recommend for others to check out!

I liked the illustrations but the story was very “meh”. I was bored with the “vlogging” sections and the supporting characters. I ended up skipping through a lot of the pages toward the middle. People love this book but I just wasn‘t into it.

Well. I can't believe I read a comic book about hockey (and pies, and boys in love), but here we are. It was cute. It was funny. It was occasionally kinda heartbreaking too. The way the story was told made it slightly hard to follow, many major events were only told afterwards. But I will be continuing with this story, whenever the next book comes out. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ngozi Ukazu (above) initially created a webcomic about Bitty, a former figure skater who plays on a college hockey team. He‘s also gay, a vlogger, has a passion for baking pies, & says goodness gracious rather than swearing. His teammates‘ language is more along the lines of getting “bitch-ass shitfaced.” And yet. There‘s true teamwork, on & off the ice. I love the relationships & the uplifting mix of realism & idealism. #LGBTQ #graphicnovel

bookishkris I adore Check Please and I‘m beyond thrilled to see it getting love outside the web. When I first read it, she‘d only written two years of it, and I don‘t know what I expected except all my Glee fandom peeps were like, “read this comic even if you don‘t like hockey”. So I did. And wound up crying into my iPad at midnight. 9mo

Well! I wasn‘t expecting to enjoy this hockey-themed #graphicnovel as much as I did. The illustration style is adorable, Eric Bittle is incredibly sweet, and the ending made me squee out loud. Definitely for older teens and up (there‘s a lot of cursing and drinking, in college frat style) but truly delightful.

If you haven‘t already read the webcomic you need to pick up #hockey! I‘ve read the online version a couple times, but being able to hold it in book form is amazing. I‘m so happy for Ngozi Ukazu, there‘s so much love and friendship in this book it makes my heart sing!

So continuing my basically read a full graphic novel before bed-athon, I have chosen Check, Please! By Ngozi Ukazu. I know nothing about this except that it‘s about hockey and that‘s something I don‘t know much about, so I‘m here to read out of my comfort zone and learn something new! So far, the art work is adorable and the main character is precious. Lol #checkplease #weneeddiversebooks #graphicnovels #bedtimereadings #readoutsidemycomfertzone

I heard great things about this graphic novel and was very excited to get to read it when the library finally got it in. The art style is cute and easy to follow, the characters are really likable, and the relationship that grows between Bittle and Jack sweet and realistic. You can also tell the author really loves hockey! I am definitely looking forward to reading volume two!

Weekend reading ready to go to the mountains for the weekend. M and I are going to Stroke Camp at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park! Activities, discussion groups for survivors and caregivers, good food, campfires, and a tropical beach party. And maybe a little reading time, if my brain is up to it. I can‘t tell who‘s more excited, M to get a massage or me for the indoor climbing wall. Either way, it‘ll be nice to be around folks who get it.

MicheleinPhilly That sounds wonderful! Enjoy! 13mo

I love this story so much and reading it in print was an absolute joy. Hockey bros, baking and a gay main character make for an excellent story and Ngozi tells it beautifully. So many emotions went through me again while reading and I absolutely live for that. Also Bitty's tweets at the end were pure gold!

I don‘t really know what to say about this except that it was the cutest ever and you should just read it. I know nothing about hockey (although I‘m supposed to be going to my first Sabres game with the hubby this year) but that didn‘t detract from the story at all.

This is actually the listing for the first volume (out in September) in a new two volume edition of the very popular webcomic Check Please! which I somehow came across only today. I don‘t know how I missed this but I made up for my oversight by reading it (online) while family watched tv this afternoon. Hockey, bros, & baking—trust me, & the comic‘s vast legions of fans, it works. Not enough space...too many good things to say. An excellent comic.

This graphic novel is pushing all my buttons in a amazing way. It captures the spirit of hockey in a vivid and way. This is what hockey can be. Team, friendship, hard work, so much hard work. The fact that Eric is gay and out is just that a fact and not a big deal. I liked the cliffhanger and I am looking forward to the next compilation. I adored the extra comics with the hockey slang.
