Volume Two of Beverly Cleary‘s memoir was just as delightful as the first! I especially enjoyed hearing about her variety of experiences as a librarian. And I am so glad she pursued her original goal of being a writer. Her memoir ends with the publication of her first book, Henry Huggins. This was my #doublespin pick for August.

I am ready for August with my #BookSpinBINGO list! I‘m 70 pages into the second volume of Beverly Cleary‘s memoirs, so I am guessing this will be the first book I finish this month.

Loved this 2nd memoir by Beverly Cleary! It covers her college days studying to become a children‘s librarian, which led to her writing life and publishing her first book. Can you believe this amazing author, who revolutionized the children‘s book industry, will celebrate her 105th birthday in April?❤️Thanks to @webhau1 for a great rec! It‘s my #BookSpinBingo read and also my January nonfiction book for #ReadingWithMaja.

As much as I enjoyed reading about her childhood, I love this account of Beverly Cleary's college and early adult years even more. The first time I read this, it was during my own floundering, post-college and it inspired me to write her a letter to which she replied!

Ruthiella How wonderful she replied to your letter! 😀 5y

Happy 103rd birthday Beverly Cleary! 🎉 Her books about Henry, Beezus, & of course Ramona helped impart a lifelong love of reading in me & countless other kids, including my three boys! She revolutionized children‘s lit — we don‘t even know just how much we owe her. It was as a children‘s librarian here in Yakima, Washington, that she first became inspired to write for her young patrons. My wife took this pic of the library yesterday while in town

saguarosally I love library pictures! 6y
rretzler I fondly remember reading about Henry, Ruby‘s, Bezus, and Ramona! Both as a young child and to my young children. Thanks for sharing! 6y
Reggie In 3rd grade way back in 1985, our teacher, Mrs.Muncy, the one teacher with a prosthetic leg, because of a turkey hunting accident, read all the Ramonas to us that year after lunch. 6y

DocBrown You‘re welcome @rretzler! Her characters are unforgettable aren‘t they? 6y
DocBrown @Reggie that sounds like my kind of teacher! Isn‘t it great that her books have been read year in and year out, across the generations? They‘re so relatable! 6y
