so-soA bail for the science chapters and a so-so for the fiction, I should probably round this down, but I am too fond of Rincewind realizing that art will save the world to give it a pan (even if how the narrative frames the rise of art of Earth is, uh, a problem). I wish it were better all around!
Real bold of this science chapter to open by saying art looks superfluous, when it exists and has been read because it is sandwiched in a Discworld novella! (I know it's going to make the point that art isn't superfluous, but it is bordering on rude.) (I am skimming like a skipped stone over these science chapters.)
Meanwhile, Rincewind is out here reading Shakespeare, feeling uplifted by the "What a piece of work" bit being written in this time. Also, he is the only person asking questions and remembering Roundworld's history.
I am only on the second science chapter, but my brain is rebelling. This book may end up being a half bail, where I just read the fiction bits!
I've been thinking a lot about Winnie the Pooh lately (as one does) and here he pops up in this book, which claims one of his stories is to teach children to not be greedy. I don't know if that's the intended or actual lesson to be found in Winnie the Pooh!
