Ok friends…I need advice on books for my daughter and her fiance.

She enjoys horror, mystery, coming of age, some fantasy. Likes King, Plath, Salinger, Flannery O‘Connor, Ling Ma, Junji Ito.

He enjoys sci-fi and fantasy. Likes Ursula K. Le Guin, China Mieville, Franz Kafka, Haruki Murakami.

Any advice from my expert book friends? TIA ❤️❤️

Meshell1313 Ooh fun! For him how about the wool series by Howry? They just turned them into the silo series but books were very different and really good. 4mo
Soubhiville For him I really liked 4mo

Hi friends! I need some help. I barely read this weekend, not for lack of interest. I often feel so guilty reading when I should be doing something with my son! He does play independently, but I just feel like I'm doing the wrong thing if I'm not at least watching him play. Other parents: Is it ok for me to read if my son is safely playing on his playmat?

Trashcanman Of course it is, you deserve me time and you'll be a better Mum for it. 4y
TheLibrarian I‘m not a parent, but as an only child my parents let me play by myself and it didn‘t bother me. Plus you need time to do things you enjoy! 4y
merelybookish Yes! It will be better for him in the long run if he isn't used to your constant attention/oversight. Benign neglect is a good thing. As long as he is safe, he can play on his own and you can read. (If it helps, imagine if you had 2 kids. Your attention would always be divided. So let yourself read when you get a minute!) 4y
8little_paws @Trashcanman @TheLibrarian @merelybookish thanks guys! I am an only child myself you'd think i would know by now lol. I like the point about imagining if there were 2 kids, i hadn't thought of it that way and it really helps. 4y
BarbaraBB I am happy it helps you. I‘d like to add that if you read sometimes it can actually make you a better mother, at least it made me because it gave me the patience and energy to be there for them during the rest of the day (and night 😉)! 4y

I just signed up for NetGalley and I‘m overwhelmed. How do you even find books to request?

Morr_Books I searched one or two of my favorite genres or I searched by a few of my favorite authors that I knew had books coming out. 4y
Morr_Books Have fun! 4y
batsy I am pretty much overwhelmed ever since I joined! I typically search by genre or publisher I'm interested in. 4y
