Lowcountry PI Liz Talbot returns to the streets of Charleston in the seventh installment of Susan M. Boyer's USA TODAY bestselling mystery series. Between an epic downpour and a King Tide, those historic streets are flooded--and dangerous. A late night tragic accident along the Lower Battery leads Liz Talbot straight to her next case. Who's the client? Well, now, therein lies the first puzzle. When the police arrive at the scene of the accident, Poppy Oliver claims she's only trying to help. But the dent on the front of her Subaru and the victim's injuries provoke a certain Charleston police detective's suspicious nature. A wealthy, anonymous benefactor hires Liz and her partner Nate Andrews to prove Poppy Oliver's innocence. What exactly was Poppy Oliver up to? Is she a random good Samaritan who happens upon the accident scene? Or perhaps this tragedy wasn't an accident. She just might be his abused wife's accomplice. Why does everyone involved in this case have a sudden burning urge for reading material, leading them to the same charming bookshop along the waterfront? From a risqu, exclusive club in an old plantation to an upscale resale shop in the historic King Street shopping district to a downtown graveyard crawling with ghosts, Liz tracks a group of women who band together to help victims of domestic violence. In her most challenging case yet, Liz fears she may find a killer, but justice may prove elusive. - - - - - - - - - - - - - LOWCOUNTRY BOOKSHOP by Susan M. Boyer - A Henery Press Mystery. 1: several: the lowcountry (SC, GA), Louisiana, beach or island settings, libraries or bookstores.
2: no, just don‘t give me a flat character. I have found lately that it‘s nice to read about women my age, but it‘s not a real preference.

TheSpineView The low country is great setting for a book. Thanks for playing! 3y

“Merry brought in the steak and gravy and set it on a trivet next to the vase of blue hydrangeas in the center of the table. Then she carried in mashed potatoes, fried squash, butter peas, green bean casserole, sliced tomatoes, fried apples, and biscuits.“

And now I have to make this menu sometime in the next week. I might skip the hydrangeas in the middle of the table.

I needed something set in the present day, after reading Arabella of Mars. I love this series, her family dynamics are laugh-out-loud funny. And there are some things that you only get if you live in the South.

Shel.f And now the author is trying to kill me. “Merry brought in the steak and gravy and set it on a trivet next to the vase of blue hydrangeas in the center of the table. Then she carried in mashed potatoes, fried squash, butter peas, green bean casserole, sliced tomatoes, fried apples, and biscuits.“ Now I'm STARVING. 5y

The husband and wife PI Team solve murder cases in the Charleston, SC area. Liz and Nate live on a island and drink Cheerwine, the soft drink of the south. A cozy mystery.

I got distracted from Ursula K. Le Guin by @Reecaspieces ‘ post about this new book in a series I love. I had no idea this title existed, so I had to go run and check Hoopla, and they had it, so I was forced to check it out.😄

Reecaspieces Glad to know I can lead to distractions 😂 (edited) 6y

I've learned a valuable lesson on why I should never start in the middle of series. This is the 7th book in this mystery series that I got via #NetGalley. Author doesn't hold a candle to Agatha Christie (whose books I never read in order). I felt disconnected from the main characters and confused about other things mentioned in the book but not explained like the bad dreams/fear of tropical storms. The actual mystery plot was meh as well.

Liz and Nate are a husband and wife team of PI‘s in Charleston, SC. This time they are looking into a hit and run incident on a rainy night. When they take a break they drink the soft drink of the south, Cheerwine. Liz has a very colorful family with lots of animals. I enjoyed this mystery due to the light and airy atmosphere in the book.

Super excited that the grill at work is open! It's gonna be hard to not have a burger every day. Best lunch break with my book.
