The List
The List: A Novel | Tara Ison
3 posts | 1 read
The List is an irreverent, sophisticated take on the classic breakup story. In fierce and exquisite prose, Tara Ison has written an astonishing story of love and hate. Isabel is finishing medical school and destined to become a brilliant heart surgeon. Al is a video store clerk, a one-hit-wonder director whose first and only film became a cult classic. Their electric, passionate, and deeply maddening relationship can't possibly work. Tired of endlessly coming together and breaking up, they make a list of ten things to do before they finally say good-bye. But after a few perfect dates the list takes a dark turn, and their plan spirals out of control as they realize they would rather destroy each other than let go.

It‘s October. That means National Reading Group Month and the release of the Great Group Reads List. Full disclosure, I am the Selection Committee Manager for the list; it‘s my baby. The program is designed to celebrate the joy of shared reading and is free to use. All of these books are great book club choices. Let me know if you read any of them or if you want the link to my blurbs or to the free promotional material.

DivineDiana Thank you! I would love the link to the information! 5y

Mehso-so

A couple does a relationship “bucket list” before breaking up for good.
Interesting concept, but things devolved quickly into dangerous territory and their relationship was very unhealthy. Also, the author had a great ending and then softened it with a weak epilogue 🙁
Reminded me a little of “Death Becomes Her” (anyone remember that movie?)

TheBookgeekFrau I vaguely remember it. I think I didn't like it 🤔 5y
Reviewsbylola I HATE weak epilogues. So unnecessary. 5y
ravenlee I saw that movie in the theater with my parents. It wasn‘t really appropriate for me (I was about 11). 5y

Med student Isabel and her feckless boyfriend Al decide they should break up, this time for good.
Before they call it quits, they want to do a relationship bucket list together.
Sounds original and not romance-y (which is good for me!)
