The Baby-Sitters Club #39: Poor Mallory
The Baby-Sitters Club #39: Poor Mallory | Ann M. Martin
3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
The hit series is back, to charm and inspire another generation of baby-sitters! There's some bad news in the Pike family: Mallory's dad has just lost his job. And since money is going to be tight until Mr. Pike finds a new job, all eight of the Pike kids decide to help out. Nicky gets a paper route, Vanessa tries selling her poetry, and Mallory takes a baby-sitting job in Kristy's ritzy neighborhood. But being around the Delaneys only makes Mallory feel poor. They have a cat that cost $400 and tennis courts in their backyard! Poor Mallory--she needs the Baby-sitters now more than ever! The best friends you'll ever have--with classic BSC covers and a letter from Ann M. Martin!

I was always a sucker for the Scholastic book flier and was always the kid that had a giant stack. I‘d get the Babysitter‘s Club, a book that usually came with a necklace and one year I got a diary which I still have. Thank you MOM for letting me spend your money!!! She told me she would always buy me books. And it is true even to this day.

Finished one more just for good measure. I don‘t think I‘m even halfway done with these yet but they‘re pretty easy to finish so I‘m not worried. Really liked this one too

I don‘t think I hated her...but she wasn‘t my favourite BSC member

dariazeoli I mean, it‘s not like she was Shannon Kilbourne 😁 5y
bunny I always liked Mal! Although, like you said, she wasn't my favorite. 5y
inthegreensandblues Poor Mallory. I didn't DISlike her, but agree that she was last ranked. 🤣 That new Babysitters Coven book they mentioned sounds interesting. 5y

Amandajoy Bookish confession... I never read the Babysitters Club books... and I was born in the 80s. 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @bunny @inthegreensandblues - I never really liked Dawn... 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Amandajoy 😨 (just kidding!) did you have a mass produced series that you devoured as a kid? Sweet Valley High maybe? 5y
Amandajoy I read Ronald Dahl as a kid. In middle school a series called Ocean City was passed around my friends. I‘m sure it would be really cheesy if I read it now! 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @dariazeoli, I think books with kids that are older than we were when we first read them have a special sort of magic that doesn‘t always hold up on reread as an adult (and that‘s ok) but you never know - nostalgia is powerful 5y
