Am Fluß
Am Fluß | Esther Kinsky
2 posts | 1 read | 3 to read

Pickpick

More like an extended essay than novel with no plot as such beyond the passing of time. An unnamed German narrator wanders around the River Lea on the outskirts of London She describes forgotten, unseen spaces and inhabitants where urban, industrial and rural overlap. The image of the river is powerful, conjuring boundary, memory, movement, and loss. Beautiful meloncholic prose that was at times dull, at times mesmerizing.

Started tagged book for women in translation month. I *think* it's a novel but so far it's hard to tell. Lots of descriptions of rivers. It's a very UN-novely novel.
Picture from my morning hike, with nary a river in sight.

merelybookish @Reggie How do you feel about lots of nature description and no plot? 😄 But I'd be happy to send it on to you when I'm done. 5y
merelybookish @Cathythoughts Colorado does have good hiking! 5y
Centique Wow. I‘ve never been to Colorado - it looks beautiful. So different to where I am in Auckland where everything is wet and green and slippery right now! I love walking in different landscapes - have to get over that way again 😠5y
merelybookish @Centique Its a very rugged kind of beauty! I grew up in a green wet place so it still surprises me to see cacti growing in the grass. This is in the foothills near Denver. It's even more beautiful when you drive deeper into the mountains! So yes, come to Colorado! 5y
