Agatha Raisin and the Dead Ringer
Agatha Raisin and the Dead Ringer | M. C. Beaton
5 posts | 4 read | 3 to read
The latest Agatha Raisin mystery from bestselling author M. C. Beaton The team of bells at St. Ethelred church is the pride and glory of the idyllic Cotswolds village of Thirk Magna, together with the most dedicated bell ringers in the whole of England: the twins Mavis and Millicent Dupin. As the village gets ready for the Bishop's visit, the twins get overly excited at the prospect of ringing the special peal of bells created for the occasion and start bullying the other bell ringers, forcing them to rehearse and rehearse . . . so much so that Joseph Kennell, a retired lawyer, yells at the sisters that he 'felt like killing them'! When the twins' home is broken into one night and Millicent is found dead, struck from a hammer blow, suspicion falls onto the lawyer. Will Agatha unmask the real killer and clear Joseph's name?

Mehso-so

Well that was pretty meh! I really miss Penelope Keith as the narrator and all the characters just seem mean and rude and this mystery was not interesting. I see the next book Penelope is back narrating so I will give it one more in the series before I bail. Just so attached to the characters at this point.

KathyWheeler Apparently I didn‘t care for it that much either — I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads. I don‘t even remember it. I liked others both before and after this book. 13mo
Liatrek @KathyWheeler This was the first one I gave 2 stars but glad to hear it might get better 🤞🏾 13mo

Mehso-so

This was an okay story but not one of her best ones. Agatha seemed too emotional for me and the mystery got a little lost in all the other drama. The mystery itself was interesting though I did figure out the killer. The ending was interesting but everyone just seems to get engaged so quickly in this.

Pickpick

Yet again, this book took me back to the feelings i had when i first started reading M.C Beatons Agatha Raisin books!
Fantastic! Gripping!

I can't wait for the next novel to be out this year!
I hope very much for Agatha and Charles and i hope even more for a gruesome murder mystery to try and solve! 🙏

Finished this book quite quickly. I do enjoy this series, and the irrational behaviour of the lead character. However I feel this one was a bit below par, certainly not my favourite in the series. Hopefully it will pick up with the new one later this year.

Started listening to the most recent book in the Agatha Raisin Series, this is Book 29 in the series. Penelope Keith does such a great job of bringing this series to life.

Monica5 I have been wanting to read this series. Is it a good one to read? 5y
Andrew65 @Monica5 I prefer her Hamish MacBeth Series, but do enjoy this one too and have read them all up to this one. Agatha isn‘t the most likeable character but her immature nature dies grow on you. Also provides some laughable moments. Definitely grow on you. (edited) 5y
Smarkies I should try her Hamish Macbeth series. Thanks for the recommendation @Andrew65 5y
Monica5 @Andrew65 Thanks I will have to try both of them. 5y
