Superman Vol. 1: The Unity Saga: Phantom Earth
Superman Vol. 1: The Unity Saga: Phantom Earth | Brian Michael Bendis
4 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
A bold new chapter for the greatest superhero of all time begins here as the superstar team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Ivan Reis begin their run on the all-new Superman! The fallout from the Man of Steel graphic novel has Clark looking at the world through new eyes...with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone! The world quakes and shakes as it begins to succumb to the effects of the entire planet being moved into the lifeless realm known as the Phantom Zone. As Superman works with the Justice League, an old enemy trapped in the same prison returns to stop the Man of Steel and escape. Collects Superman #1-6.

While Bendis's Action Comics arc is very down to earth, this Superman arc is more intergalactic. When the earth gets sucked into the Phantom Zone even Superman may be in over his head.

Mehso-so

This is a Superman book, but it's Superboy's story. Apparently it references previous Bendis work, but I was able to get through this not knowing any of that. It make some pretty big changes/reveals about Krypton, but mostly recants them in the end, so it is a low-stakes tale overall.

Pickpick

Very cool! I'm not particularly fond of Superman, but I was in the mood, and I picked a couple of winners! Also very happy to see Paste Magazine quoted on the cover
