Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come
Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come: An Introverts Year of Living Dangerously | Jessica Pan
Extroverts have all the fun. Or so Jessica Pan thought. When she found herself jobless and friendless, sitting in the familiar Jess-shaped crease on her sofa, she couldn't help but wonder what life might have looked like if she had been a little more open to new experiences and new people, a little less attached to going home instead of going to the pub. So, she made a vow: to push herself to live the life of an extrovert for a year. She wrote a list: improv, a solo holiday and... talking to strangers on the tube. She regretted it instantly. Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come follows Jess's hilarious and painful year of misadventures in extroverting, reporting back from the frontlines for all the introverts out there. But is life actually better or easier for the extroverts? Do they really have all the fun?

ElizaMarie @Soubhiville Yes, we got him as a rescue in Vermont via Florida (during a big storm). I think the shelter named him Lobster because he came from Florida (actually I never asked why his name was Lobster), anyway, we got him when he was young but... he was just a Lobster - it suited him well. (He is the #HousePanther you see on my posts all the time) 2w

monalyisha I‘m 99.9% sure they‘ve already gone fine-free and this is mostly for lost or damaged items. They‘ll even accept pictures of other “ungovernable creatures” (e.g. I have a pet house rabbit who definitely fits the bill), and if you don‘t have an animal photo, they‘ll hand you crayons and a blank piece of paper to draw one. They‘ve got a cat/gallery wall. They‘re really just trying to create truly open access, leaving no room for shame. 2w

Another audiobook that reflects my current mindset and that exceeded my expectations. Jessica, like me, is an introvert looking to shake things up and meet people. Despite being happily married, she's shy and struggled to make friends as an adult. She challenged herself in ways I would never dream up (improv classes) but inspired me none the less. Lots of LoL moments, and relateable awkwardness. Would recommend for fans of Shonda's Year of Yes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I related to a lot of what the author said about what it‘s like being an introvert - especially because I‘m a “shintrovert” (shy introvert) myself. The beginning was especially funny. After telling some of the stories to my husband he asked if she did all of it TO write a book about it. After that, I couldn‘t stop wondering that for the rest of the book. 🤔 I still enjoyed most of the book though. I recommend to anyone curious.

I have listened to this all week & decided it‘s a perfect book for my commute. Witty, light-hearted, & fun, I was able to laugh before & after work. I definitely won‘t ever participate in stand-up comedy or improv but enjoyed hearing about Pan‘s experience. I related so much to her. I‘ve been looking forward all day to introverting tomorrow. This card, all about creative possibility, intuition and new ideas, felt on the nose for this book. The author, a self proclaimed introvert, recounts her experiences as she commits to a year of saying “yes”. She pushes her self out of her comfort zone in order to open herself up to new experiences. #tarottakeover

Caveat: I have to do this on my cell phone, because we are without internet after Hurricane Laura came through. I cannot upload a photo of the book, and I cannot see very well using my phone, so this will be short. As in introvert myself, I really couldn‘t relate to the mission of the author. I had read the book “Quiet,” by Susan Cain, and loved it. This is not that book. Jessica Pan‘s goal ⬇️

#ReadWithMrBook #ToHavePplLeaveYouAlone #August

gradcat ⬆️ (cont) is to make new friends, a circle of friends, in fact, whereas I, as an introvert, so love being alone that I‘m really not interested in going out and looking for new friends. I value my quiet time way too much—which is exactly why I didn‘t like this book—it‘s message is not aimed at me. ♥️👩🏻‍🎓🐱 4y

This is a BF book about a ‘shintrovert‘s‘ (shy introvert) mission to be an extrovert for a year.

I did feel as though, in some instances, she was trying to overcome shyness rather than introversion; doing stand-up is more to do with confidence than extroversion.

I enjoyed most of the escapades though, I just don‘t see the need to put yourself through it... the world needs introverts! (she says, whilst introverting on the sofa)

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Although I enjoyed reading this book, I cannot believe that a true shy and introverted person would or could do the things that Pan describes. Just reading about her walking up to strangers and asking questions or doing stand-up comedy increase my heat rate. Much like when I read ‘The Sober Diaries‘ earlier this year, I feel a lot has been exaggerated and manufactured for this book.

CallMeIshmael Totally agree, my take is that she faked her introversion to write a book. As an introvert this book doesn‘t settle with me. 4y

This was an interesting look at a year when a shy introvert faces her nightmares encountering people and tries to be less anxious in her interactions. I haven‘t read Quiet by Susan Cain. Here the author examines introverts but this is really more in the vein of Julie and Julia or Tolstoy and the Purple Chair where you try to change your habit to gain more incite into your nature and/or interests. It was good.

MyNamesParadise I have read Quiet by Susan Cain but it‘s been a while! This sounds good! 4y

I am not an avid reader of memoirs, nor am I a fan of them. However, I made an exception to my fictional fantasy worlds, for this witty and clever tale of one introvert's haunting tale of trying to extrovert for one year. This is one memoir everyone should read about the trials and tribulations of an introvert being social while not dying of embarrassment in public.

My husband said ‘Never mind the Haribo, she‘s sent you kitchen roll!‘ 🤣🤣

Thanks so much - and lovely ‘seeing‘ you last night on the Zoom chat!

As a proud introvert, the title of this book really grabbed me. While it was interesting reading about her year of going out of her comfort zone, in my personal opinion she does many things a true introvert would probably never do, like doing improv and stand-up comedy in front of an audience. Still, I learned some things and think this is worth reading. 3.5⭐️

The author calls herself a shintrovert or shy introvert, which seems to suit her. She gives herself a year of trying to be more extroverted and this memoir covers that year. Chatty and engaging, but kept thinking she focused too much on what she imagined extroverts were like, rather than trying to just engage the world around her as an introvert. Seemed more about her shyness and social awkwardness than anything.

I‘m a sucker for memoirs where the author does something new for a year and writes about it. This one wasn‘t bad and the author‘s voice was appropriately chatty. However, I ended up feeling like the author wasn‘t addressing problems of introversion as much as her shyness. Doing an improv class, stand-up comedy, speaking in public, talking to strangers - all of these fears faced her embarrassment and shyness, not necessarily introversion.
