Lev Grossman just set his profile picture to this stick figure drawing & I am DYING. 😂😂😂 It‘s ridiculous how much it looks like him! I just...I can‘t.
Also, this book‘s Litsy rating is a TRAVESTY.
I made it about 1/3 of the way, but couldn‘t push myself any further.
Snap, The Magicians at the lil Library in the gym, and it‘s the book we discussed. Double snap 🙌🏻😂 only $3 too. 😀 @Andrea4
Storm might be on its way but I'm the only one on the beach!
Enjoying The Magicians but soooo different than Harry Potter
Thanks for the follow @annahenke @Schmieds @Theaelizabet @olivia.ferz

2. Women Talking by Miriam Toews
3. What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand and Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky
4. I set a goal to read 52 books, that's one a week. I should be on book 23 but I'm on book 17. But, I'm a teacher and summer is coming!

At nearly 3 hrs in, I‘m bailing. Sadly, I found it too tediously boring for me to even loathe it. It‘s just boring and I just can‘t go any further.
My full GR review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2837541119
“As a teenager in Brooklyn Quentin had often imagined himself engaged in martial heroics, but after this he knew, as a cold immutable fact, that he would do anything necessary, sacrificing whatever or whomever he had to, to avoid risking exposure to physical violence. Shame never came into it. He embraced his new identity as a #coward... It didn't matter what he had to do, he would do it and be glad.”
I very rarely say this: the show is better. These 2 are even more insufferable in the books. The first 300 pages were sooooooo sloooooowwww.
#Grateful21 - day who knows which... 😆
1 -vacation was lovely, but being home with a hot shower, my big couch, and indoor plumbing in general is pretty fabulous too
2 -PB&J ❤️
3 - watching my saved episodes of The Magicians while reading the Chronciles of Narnia (I‘m on Prince Caspian now) is so much fun! Lots of homage to Narnia in the (way darker and so campy) show.
Finished in my afternoon of grape washing and picking- having the time of my life right now!
This got dark towards the end; not magical dark but PTSD dark. It is, like many other reviews say, a mash of various magical realms we've visited before and I love it. I shall definitely continue this trilogy.
(Oh yea, I also made a baby scorpion friend today!)
Finally got the #audiobook back which is good because The Golem and The Jinni returned way before I could finish lol and someone put a hold on it!
So just going to wash our greda and pick and wash our grapes for juicemaking while listening to this in the beautiful sunshine.
I'm not much into fantasy but I did enjoy this book. It had a more nuanced, one could even say darker approach to the topic. What happens to your personality when you master magical powers. Some depth for a change, though not always pleasant to read. (PS: I did write this blurb.)
I liked this one, but the first 80% was a slog. It might be Stockholm Syndrome
(Also! My #booked2019 New-to-me-Author. I know it‘s March, but there‘s still snow on the ground and the spring equinox hasn‘t happened yet!)
1. This is my house.
2. I like where I live but I wish the winters were milder.
4. I don't have a specific time where I read more often.
5. Friday night we had Mexican street corn and enchiladas.
I'm playing catch up with #friYAYintro @howjessreads
This book has been sitting unread in my classroom library for years. It came recommended and I sensed that I'd love it. Why I waited so long to read it, I'm not sure. I borrowed the audiobook from my library and started listening to it while walking. I was less than halfway through the book before I pressed it into a student's hand. I knew he would love it, and he finished it before I did. HP fans and fantasy lovers, this one is not to be missed!
This is a reread. I first read this over 5 years ago and thought it was ok but then I just finished watching the first 3 seasons of the TV series (on Netflix) and LOVED it (especially Elliot and High King Margo). So I thought I‘d try the books again. And so far not really. Maybe the focus is to much on a younger Q (TV Q is older) and no Julia (while I don‘t like her, at least she‘s a major female character).
I 💗 these 2. They are the best part of this show. While purging my TBR list I realized I've had this book on my TBR since 4/25/2012!!! 😲😲
It took three attempts to slog through this one, and I am thinking I should have just bailed after the first try. Of the 402 pages, I'd say roughly 50 of them were entertaining. The rest was just so incredibly boring. 🌟🌟 (I'm feeling generous)
Moving on to the next book for #25inFive.
High school senior Quentin Coldwater assumes that magic isn't real, until he is unexpectedly admitted to a very secretive and exclusive college of magic in upstate New York. He learns how to be a magician, graduates, and embarks on an adventure with his friends. Read like a bad mash-up of the "Harry Potter" series and The Chronicles of Narnia with a dash of "Men in Black" tossed in. Not for me.
I have started this book 3 times now. The second time I started from the beginning, but this time I'm starting from where I left off at page 238. Here's hoping I can finish it this time around. Otherwise I think I should maybe just give up.
A coming of age story targeted to adults that is obviously inspired by Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia. I‘ve been waiting to watch the TV series until I could read the book, but I think this might be one of those rare cases where I prefer the show to the book.
Though the writing is good, the main characters (brilliant and rich) are pretentious little shits who spend their time getting drunk and bitching about how miserable they are.
2. Just 1.
3. There‘s a freaking “❄️” marked in the forecast for Saturday. 😡
5. The Magicians. Seems like people either love or hate this series. It‘s just not for me. After having time to reflect, I really think my main issue was that the characters reminded me too much of the scummy kids I knew in high school, so I probably got a little triggered by it.
