History of the World Map by Map
History of the World Map by Map | DK
1 post | 2 to read
More than 140 detailed maps tell the story of pivotal episodes in world history, from the first human migrations out of Africa to the space race. Custom regional and global maps present the history of the world in action, charting how events traced patterns on land and ocean--patterns of exploration, discovery, or conquest that created empires, colonies, or theaters of war. Thoughtful organization of information will help you follow the story of civilizations through ancient, medieval, and modern times. But not every page is full of maps. At key points in History of the World Map by Map, broad, sweeping introductions provide a chance to step back and look at entire periods, such as World War II, or to explore overarching themes, such as the Industrial Revolution. Picture spreads, meanwhile, focus on epoch-defining moments or developments, such as fascism and communism, and the invention of printing.

ImperfectCJ Ooh! That's a nice looking one! I might need to put that on my son's wishlist... 4y
TheAromaofBooks @ImperfectCJ - Obviously the history is very general because the book literally covers pretty much everything you could think of, but there are SO MANY maps that it seems like a great supplemental read to other historical studies, as well as a fun way to find the next time/region of history to read. I'm a sucker for maps, and a sucker for DK's glossy, colorful, engaging reads, so this was a no-brainer... luckily my husband likes maps, too 😁 4y
ImperfectCJ @TheAromaofBooks My son is super into maps and history, so I'm always on the lookout. We have a couple of kid ones he really likes, but he's starting to want a little more than they offer. Atlas of World History (tagged) is quite good, but it looks like the maps are larger (and maybe easier to read) in the one you have. 4y

TheAromaofBooks @ImperfectCJ - oh, he would probably like this one. It's about 12“ x 14“, and the maps/info cover a full page spread, so they are pretty easy to read/see. It's also interesting because the book is divided up into rough eras, but covers world history. So, there's a map of dwindling Native American territory, and then the next page is a map of the French Revolution - it puts events side-by-side that you don't necessarily think of as concurrent. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @ImperfectCJ - thanks for tagging the other book. I'm always on the lookout for atlases of all types!! 4y
