Baby Don't Hurt Me
Baby Don't Hurt Me: Stories and Scars from Saturday Night Live | Chris Kattan
7 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
You may know him as Mango, Mr. Peepers, the gibberish-spouting Suel Forrester, or one half of the head-bopping brothers in A Night at the Roxbury. Maybe you remember him as the forlorn gothic kid Azrael Abyss, Gay Hitler, or the guitarist in the More Cowbell sketch. Whichever it is, Chris Kattan has earned a spot in the hearts of a generation of comedy fans. Chris Kattan has defied comparison, expectations, and sometimes gravity with his inimitable style of physical comedy. By creating some of the most memorable Saturday Night Live characters, as well as his many roles in film and television, Kattan has remained one of the most fearless and versatile comedians in the world. Not long after Chris was labeled one of the improv group Groundlings must-see performers in the company, he was cast on SNLand within the first six weeks, Chriss film career also took off. Now, for the first time, Kattan opens up about eight seasons on SNL, performing alongside friends and future legends including Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, and Tina Fey, and guest hosts from Charlize Theron to Tom Hanks to David Bowie. He also shares stories of his unusual childhood (involving a secluded mountain with zen monks) with Leonard Cohen and Alan Watts. Baby, Dont Hurt Me offers an unprecedented look into Chriss life, from his fascinating relationship with Lorne Michaels, a private Valentines Day dinner with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, an unforgettable flight with Beyonc, and even breaking his neck on live television. Baby, Dont Hurt Me is a candid, revealing memoir from a timeless comedian and a window into the world of millennium-era SNL, from the rehearsals to the after-after parties, as narrated by your hilarious and inspiring friendwho just so happened to be there for all of it.

I found this fascinating. Chris Kattan is probably most famous for his stint on SNL but reading this there is so much more. He interweaves the story of his tenure on SNL along with his early influences and unconventional childhood with a blend of humor and realism. I'm glad he was cast on CBBUS3 or I'd never have had this come across my reading radar.

#BookReport
Finished two books this week including the last of my Book Spin picks for the month. Both were good but not super incredible

#Weekly Forecast
My goal this week is to finish the tagged and work on some more of my Newbery Challenge. Then focus on the new Book Spin draws.

#BookReport
Managed to finish one book this week and get half way through the Kattan autobio. I'm finding the Kattan book interesting because until he was cast on Celebrity Big Brother I had no idea that he literally broke his neck on tv. He was my fave on this season of BB so I am fascinated by his story now.

#WeeklyForecast
My goal this week is to finish the Kattan book and get at least half way through the Hambly.

I didn‘t know much about Chris Kattan except for some of the sketches I‘d seen on SNL, but this was much darker than I was expecting. It definitely had some funny moments, but he was so honest about his regrets, his drug addiction, his relationship issues, that by the end all I wanted to do was give him a big hug and help him find a competent therapist. Interesting and informative, to say the least. Three and a half stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Listening to this one today. 👍

Karisa Now I'm going to have that song (and image of him with Will Farrell) stuck in my head for awhile. Kattan was hilarious on SNL (remember Mango?). Is it serious or comedy though? 4y
GypsyKat @Karisa it‘s so catchy! 😂 And I‘d say this is more serious than funny, since it‘s a memoir. 4y
Karisa @GypsyKat Ikr? I just can't imagine him being serious. Interested in reading your thoughts/review once done.🤗 4y

Written by one of my all time favourite comedians/actors, this book is sure to make me pee my pants. I actually can‘t wait to get into it during #24b4Monday.

I‘d have to say I‘m 99% sure I‘ll be watching A Night At The Roxbury this weekend as well, because I can‘t help that my love for Chris Kattan is REAL.
