I've not read anything about 9/11. Living through those days and ensuing months in post-9/11 New York is enough for me. So much changed that day: the city skyline, lives, people, attitudes, and feelings. I can never let go of the intense need to help in those days after, though. Hearts were so big and full of compassion. That's the NY I like to recall every year. We couldn't do enough for each other. Tell people you love them as often as you can.

Mdargusch That feeling people had for one another after 9/11 is a feeling I‘ll never forget. I wanted to hug everyone I saw and tell them things will be ok. 5y
Cinfhen You too might appreciate that book @IamIamIam since it‘s not set in NY 👆🏽 5y

Mdargusch I just saw your post about Fall and Rise @cinfhen. I‘m adding both to my 9/11 list. 🙁 (edited) 5y
IamIamIam @Cinfhen I've heard it's wonderful. If I'm not mistaken, that's what the play was based on, right? My in laws went to see it but the name isn't there... 5y
IamIamIam @Mdargusch And I'm with you, Mariann. There was lots of hugging and since I worked for a swim school, lots of little kid hugs. We had great relationships with our customers and we rehashed it all daily for a few weeks. The kids were tough to handle. 5y
Cinfhen Yes @IamIamIam it‘s the show Come From Away ( I think that‘s the name ) I‘m still bitter because we bought tickets for Waitress instead of the 9/11 show and I fell asleep 😴 literally I slept through the whole show, it was that bad 5y
Cinfhen Add both @Mdargusch !!!! I did audio for The Day The World Came & I‘m listening to Zuckoff on audio and they are both brilliant (edited) 5y
IamIamIam @Cinfhen Oh no, really??? That's awful!!! I totally feel your pain!!! 😖😖😖 5y
mrp27 I've never read any adult fiction either on 9/11, just the kid stuff. 5y
IamIamIam @mrp27 How are those books? We've talked about it and I've discussed my experience with the kids but we've never read anything. 5y
mrp27 Some are better than others of course. Some focus on the day of like Eleven by Tom Rogers and others focus on the years after like 5y
IamIamIam @mrp27 Thanks! I'll be sure to check them out! The kids have asked about the memorial but I'm not sure I could handle going there. I went to Ground Zero when friends had come in from out of town a few weeks after and I had to wait a block away. 😞 5y
mrp27 Welcome! I haven't been to the new memorial or museum either. Anger and pain. I find it crazy to see things in a museum that I once had in my house, boots, bunker gear etc. I've been down there one too many times to count. My ex husband is FDNY, he was there that day of course working out of Ladder 117 in Astoria. We were just married that July and I had just moved to NY that summer. Crazy way to start a marriage. 5y
IamIamIam @mrp27 Oh wow, that must have been such a crazy time! I'm thankful for his rescue efforts! We had all that gear, too. My dad spent months down there as a NYPD sergeant and I can remember all the upheaval because we never knew where he was at any given time. Early cell phone tech wasn't as reliable as today. 5y
mrp27 Thanks and a huge thanks to your dad for his rescue efforts as well. I agree that was the most frustrating thing about those days, spotty cell service and I never knew when my ex would get to come home or be home. We lived on a day by day existence for months. 5y
