The Little Book of Lists
The Little Book of Lists | Amy Wallace, David Wallechinsky
1 post
All the best bits from the original compendium of curious information-The Book of Lists The first Book of Lists was "a treat" (Canberra Times) and "a fascinating compendium" (Daily Telegraph)-and this special mini version simply includes all the best, quirkiest and most bizarre lists from its bigger brother. From the authors: "We hope you'll enjoy The Little Book of Lists as much as we did. And by the way, do you know the average penis lengths of mammals? Or the shortest marriages in history? Or people who died playing cards? You'll find intriguing answers in The Little Book of Lists; and as we always say: its a gift for everyone, from teens to 100-year-olds -hasn't Uncle Charles received enough neckties?"

I put together my 2020 book list and I‘m sorry, I couldn‘t help it. 😂 But it was so much fun and I‘m looking forward to next year x1000! My list is made up of a challenge I‘ve set myself to read some classics I‘ve never read (like Proust 😬) plus titles from my original, written in a journal, TBR, that are from the early 2000s, a few from my Litsy stack and a few diverse reads that I‘m guilty I haven‘t read yet. How do you plan your reading year?

rabbitprincess I've already started my pool of potential reads for 2020. All four of the books I've picked so far are historical fiction 😅 5y
GingerAntics I don‘t really. I‘ve tried to make plans the last several years now, and I just end up reading what catches my attention. If I tried to stick to a prescribed plan I‘d end up reading far fewer books per year. 5y
TheAromaofBooks All the books I want to read are on spreadsheets, and I frequently use a random number generator to decide what's coming up next!! (edited) 5y

Lcsmcat Sometimes having a list gives me the push to read something that takes more effort. But if I feel like I _have_ to read something I often don‘t enjoy it as much as if I just read what strikes my fancy. 5y
batsy Proust! He's on my list of classics to tackle, as well. And newsflash to myself: I'm not getting any younger 😆 Maybe next year I should take the plunge with the first volume ☺️ 5y
Centique @rabbitprincess oh good - I‘m glad I‘m not the only one! 5y
Centique @GingerAntics ah right. I‘m almost the opposite - without a researched list to choose from (and reserve or purchase in advance), I find myself staring aimlessly at library shelves feeling underwhelmed by what‘s available. 5y
Centique @TheAromaofBooks that is such a cool idea. I sometimes randomly choose from off my list but a number generator takes that next level! 😃 5y
Centique @Lcsmcat I must admit I allow myself total freedom to bail. My lists are so long that I‘ll think this is not the right time and put something on the top right back to the bottom “see you in ten years or so book!” 😂 5y
Centique @batsy if you want to try a buddy read let me know! I‘ve got a copy of the first volume now so I‘m determined to give it a try at least. 🤞🤞 5y
GingerAntics Then it‘s good you‘ve made yourself a list. I tend to get excited, borrow a book, get on the wait list, buy a book, then I have a million things to read and I just read whatever strikes my fancy at that moment. 5y
LeahBergen This is awesome! 5y
batsy @Centique Yes, I'd love that! When I get my copy (and I'm sure I'll manage that this year 😁) I'll give you a shout. Proust has been a reading project I've been meaning to start for awhile. 5y
Reggie Lolol I can‘t even plan for tomorrow‘s book. Wow, this is impressive!!! 5y
Centique @Reggie my whole life is full of lists. I don‘t force myself to stick to them but I hate to be stuck for an idea. I keep lists of books for my kids, my dad, lists of movies, lists of school holiday activities, lists of travel ideas, lists of recipes. It‘s just part of my existential fabric 😂😂😂 5y
CarolynM The only time I plan reading is if my book group plans a month or two ahead (happens occasionally) or if I know there's a Litsy buddy read coming up that I want to be part of. Otherwise it's just whatever takes my fancy when I finish a book and sometimes when I'm only part way through😂 5y
Centique @CarolynM @Reggie you guys are “living on the edge”! I admire your zest for life and faith in the book gods. 🤟🙌✊ 5y
Centique @GingerAntics I love how diverse all our book habits are - there are so many kinds of “book worm” and approaches to the bookish life - it‘s awesome 😊 5y
Centique @batsy I‘ll look forward to it! 👍 5y
Centique @LeahBergen 😘 it‘s an addiction but a kind of useful one! 5y
enidkeaner I don‘t plan my reading - I can‘t! For me, making concrete reading plans is pretty much the best way to ensure that I won‘t read 🤣 5y
Centique @enidkeaner I can understand that! 😊 I definitely can‘t force any kind of order or timeline on myself -that would freeze me up terribly. But having a hundred or so pre-selected options to choose from seems to keep my reading moving steadily. 5y
rabbitprincess @Centique Same, I like having a little list of options to choose from. My pool of possibilities is put together from monthly challenges set up at the start of the year, but I almost never read the books in the same month as the challenge. 5y
Centique @rabbitprincess that sounds like a fun way of doing it 😍 5y
Suet624 @GingerAntics I‘m the same way 5y
