Two library visits today!

Had 14 books to take back to The Leeds Library 😊 and I think I did rather well to only come out with 3 (on the left). Pleased to find one of the Booker Longlist there.

I couldn‘t find Peaces anywhere @BarbaraBB for #CampToB, other than at full price and I‘m not sure I‘m going to like it… then I thought I‘d check my local public library and there it was. Of course, I had to have a look to see what else they had!

Another visit to the library today... As you can see it was lovely and peaceful.

Nearly all of the books there are 3-month loans but the newer, popular books are standard 3 week loans. I went 3 weeks ago and accidentally (?!) picked up two 3-week loans, so what‘s a girl to do but read them and take another trip to return them.

I was quite well-behaved - returned 8 books in total and only borrowed 3 this time!

squirrelbrain This is a private members library @Lizpixie - the oldest subscription library in the UK I think, founded in 1768. My local council library isn‘t too bad either though, but not as lovely as this! 3y

Aah! The smell of old books..... My first visit to the library in *many* months.

I got 18 books.... some for #readingasia2021, one for the #womensprize and many others just because.

It all felt very safe - as it‘s a members-only subscription library anyway it never feels full during ‘normal‘ times and, actually, I was only the 4th person in there this morning other than the staff.

Now to decide what to read first!

Soubhiville What a cool looking library! I‘m glad you got to go. Mine is still curbside only. They are supposed to open for “express service” in a few weeks, but still haven‘t explained what that means. 🤷‍♀️ 3y

Tamra I‘ve been LOVING the curbside pickup service and will miss it when “normal” resumes. I‘m sure it‘s a pain for the staff. 3y

I was planning on heading to The Leeds Library today anyway but last night received a lovely email from them to say they were closing on Saturday.

As their email said ‘we encourage to take out as many items as you can carry‘ - I thought I should obey. What do you mean, it was a suggestion, rather than an order?!

Left side is #readingeurope2020, others are just because....

Still don‘t think I quite beat your haul though Jess @jhod ! 🤣📚🤣📚

jhod I only got 17 and was allowed 30 so feel disappointed in myself - it was a bit like supermarket sweep trying to grab as many as i could before it closed! 4y

SauerPatch I always take my son on Wednesday‘s, which I did last week when mine was still open. In anticipation hunkering down for a few weeks at home, I checked out two stacks of picture books for him and only a handful for me, thinking this would be a 2-4 week gig. Now they‘re closed until at LEAST the beginning of May, and I wish I‘d taken the time to get more! 😩 4y

Caroline and I have done these sort of buddy reads before... we call them ‘loosey-goosey‘ so there‘s no set structure. We just read at the same time and comment on Litsy when we wish..... I may put a post up on Litsy in case anyone else wants to join - let‘s say a Sunday start in that case. Looking forward to it! 4y

Just returning from a New Members Evening at The Leeds Library.

This room is usually kept locked as it holds all of their very rare books, including a first edition of Darwin‘s Origin of the Species (where on one of the first pages there is a misprint of Speicies).

There‘s also an edition of Moby Dick, called The Whale, before Melville changed his mind after the first 500 books were printed.

Plus many more books right back to the 1500s- bliss!

My new favourite place had a book sale today.... all of these were 50p each! 😁👍❤️

I already have 84 Charing Cross Road but as it‘s one of my favourites of all time, and this is a different edition, so what was I supposed to do?!

I hope I‘m correct in thinking that the Val McDermid is the first in the series?

Oh my gosh, look where I‘ve just been!

This library is the oldest surviving subscription library in Britain and is right in the middle of the shopping heart of Leeds.

They have 140,000 books, including new releases. You can even eat your lunch there. I‘ll be working 2 minutes‘ walk away from the beginning of September so, needless to say, I just joined up!

Oh, you can take out up to 30 books at once! 📚📚📚
