Are there any series that you feel would have been better as a stand-alone? I wish Ransom Riggs had stopped after Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children because that book was brilliant, and the sequels just never lived up to the hype for me. He has a 5th book coming out in January and I doubt I'll even read it.

rather_be_reading kinda how im feeling abt it too 😢 2w
MeganAnn I never picked up the second book in this series. Your post makes me glad I stopped after the first one. 2w

This was fun, but a little disappointing. I love the idea of weaving found photos into the story, but that element was hit or miss in its execution. So many of the photos felt forced into the narrative, rather than letting the story emerge from the images. Honestly, I think the movie was stronger because its story wasn‘t tied to specific static images. I did enjoy the book overall & may pick up the sequels—I do want to know what happens next!

What a lovely book. The author did a really great job of setting up a fantastical world that was still believable. When it was over all I could think was “I wish could get to know the characters better.”

...aaaaaaand apparently I‘ve been living under a rock, as I‘m only now discovering it‘s a *series*, and also a movie?!

Good thing there was bonus material included in this version. #screamathon

I love with all the photos in this book, and it‘s the first thing I thought of with today‘s “supernatural” #screamathonphotochallenge

I‘m also really loving the world the author has created, so much fun. #screamathon

I enjoyed the story. I am curious to see what happens in the next book. Mystery, suspense, fantasy, time travel, and a coming of age/finding yourself story. What‘s there not to love?

I‘ve had a slow start to #BFCR4. Since Sunday, I‘ve felt like I‘m coming down with a cold that hasn‘t materialized. I‘ve had little to no energy, so I‘ve been taking a pass on my exercise goal. Above is my plan for today: books & herbal tea with honey! Other goals: daily spiritual practice has been great, and I‘m counting all the herbal tea toward my water intake goal! And I finished one book on Tuesday—👍🏼 #runningonreading #bookfitnesschallenge

wanderinglynn Sounds like a good plan👍🏻☕️ Way to adapt & I hope you feel better! 2mo
Caterina I hope you feel better soon!! That tiredness when you're sick is so hard. It sounds like you're taking great care of yourself, yay! That's what BFC is all about. ❤️😊 2mo

Definitely enjoying this one! I managed to evade all spoilers before reading it. I didn‘t even read the synopsis and I had forgotten what i read in the first 92 pages the first time I started it, so it was brand new to me. Not what I expected, but in a good way. Mystery, fantasy, and creepy. All in all, a good October read. Can‘t wait to see what happens next on September 3rd, 1940.

This is a series of books. I haven‘t finished the book yet but from what I‘ve read, it‘s really good! The book has a beginning that has a dark, suspenseful, tone as Jacob, the protagonist, tries to solve all the secrets that his grandpa left for him. If you like books that are mysterious and thrilling, I think you‘ll love this novel.

MissYaremcio What a great review of a book you haven't finished yet! I love how you seamlessly incorporated the tone and the summary! Great job! 2mo

My MLIS friend and I accidentally came across an old empty greenhouse of sorts, I snapped a few pictures and then realized how ghostly she looks with the focus. Figured this was a good pic for the #screamathonPhotoChallenge today!

Miss Peregrine‘s Home for Peculiar Children took me by surprise. It was somehow gloomy yet wittingly uplifting at the same time.I loved the addition of all the old photos. The first book in this series, I am looking forward to following Jacob and his peculiar friends on their journey.

Still good the 4th time around! Jacob finds that his grandfather's friends, who could populate a sideshow, aren't just tall tales and stumbles into a time loop and into his destiny!

Browsing through Libby to see what's available while it's still quiet around here and stumbled on this beauty narrated by Jesse Bernstein! He did the Mr. Lemoncello series also and I think he'd be perfect! I've read this one at least 3 times now, so a quick listen will prep me to bump Map of Days to the top of the TBR. 😁

Overall I did like the book and it was an enjoyable read but I found I was able to predict certain events that were major plot points in the book, but I loved the incorporation of photographs into the story and I did really enjoy the concept. I will be continuing the series further in the future

Revisiting an old friend, and taking notes for a blog entry later.

Enjoying the book as much the second time, if not more.

But each page is a reminder of what can go wrong when you loan books. (This book was in pristine condition when I loaned it. It came home like this, with dog eared pages, torn cover, and actual chunks missing from the edges. Water damage and burn marks are the only thing missing. )

Read this a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed it. I'd heard it was good for Harry Potter fans, but glad I checked it before reading to my daughter! It's for mid-teens at the earliest. Loved the interplay netween the found photos and the story line. Give some good creepiness but their trick-photography nature limits it nicely.

Hmm.. I liked the beginning of it. I didn't know before where the book was going and while reading it had no idea how the story might unfold, which made it a very interesting and creepy read first. But after a while the story felt kinda forced to me. It felt like the writer really wanted to show us some of these photos and that's why he thought of a connection to the story. I liked the idea behind it but for me it didn't really work out.

An easy read, and it was interesting enough to keep my attention. Not really different enough from the typical storyline: kid hears stories from his grandpa and finds out they‘re true later on. I appreciated the “loop” though. Give it a read if you‘re already through your tbr list, otherwise, it can wait.

IamIamIam I loved this series but the 2nd and 3rd books are so much better, in my opinion. The first one was a bit repetitive. 😁 6mo

Finished off this book in just a few hours by reading the physical book and tackling the audiobook while doing some small chores. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and will consider watching the movie. Loved the pictures and drawings that were included in the book. 📚
