Book 2 of #urbanfantasy meets MM #romantsy. The ending was a little too contrived and I didn‘t like this as much as the first book but it was still good. 👻👻👻👻 On to book 3.

Friends, I‘m SO hooked on this series. With this second book, Burke doubles down on both the mystery angle as the characters launch their detective agency and on the relationships she established in NOT DEAD YET as Wes figures out how to balance some of his less admirable qualities with his desperate need to keep his found family. Things get INTENSE, especially as the case du jour forces secrets out into the open.

I love damned near everything ⬇️

xicanti about it. Burke looks at the mechanics of second chance romances, and at how forgiveness works when a loved one makes a potentially friendship-destroying mistake. She deepens the existing characters‘ ties and introduces intriguing newcomers. (I want MOAR REN, please.) And she gives everyone lots of interesting external conflicts alongside their internal struggles. ⬇️ 5y
xicanti The ending is maybe a tad schmaltzy, but I love these characters so much, and want so many good things for them, that you can bet I teared up. I can‘t wait for the next book.

Also, I IDed Wes as demisexual when I reviewed NOT DEAD YET, but I read him more as gray ace in this one. Whichever label fits, it‘s always mighty nice to see aroace characters on the page.

Lunchtime iced coffee & book on this glorious 27° day. I‘m finally in the home stretch here, and the wait for the next book in the series is gonna be TOUGH.

Then I sat on a hill and read while the prairie dogs frolicked nearby. Unfortunately, none of them showed up in this shot, but I promise they were adorable.

I ended up with practically no reading time yesterday and it bummed me right out. TONIGHT, friends! I‘m gonna sit outside with my Queer Beer and build on the couple of chapters I read on the hill.

No Queer Beer yet, but I did eat some painfully good baked taco eggs while I read another chapter. There was taco meat on the bottom, plus delicious taco sauce and cheese. 😍

I‘ve been thinking a lot about why I read so little UF. Part of it is because people keep reccing the Basic Buffy Plot to me, and I‘m PICKY about the BBP. This series is more the Basic Angel Plot, with supernatural types investigating stuff together, and I‘m hooked.

Cornbread topped with honey butter + coffee in my lying mug + book. I‘m hoping for lots of reading time today so I can binge this one, but Casey graduates from puppy school this morning (yeah, that‘s a thing) and I‘m supposed to run this afternoon and I‘ve gotta handle some start-of-the-month admin. So we‘ll see. I do have a Queer Beer set aside to drink with it whenever I get the chance.

StayCurious I saw Jenn Burke at Ottawa Comic-Con:) 5y
