Turn the Beat Around: The Secret History of Disco | Peter Shapiro

Journalist Shapiro traces the history of disco music, describing it as a shotgun marriage between a newly out and proud gay sexuality and the first generation of post-civil rights African Americans, all to the serenade of the synthesizer.

Amazing. Such an insane history. Loved how it wasn't just disco secluded, but how disco was innately tied to a million different genres (soul, funk, pop, electronic). Hilariously entertaining and left me with a great disco playlist. Read with grace. :')

Working my way through these two gems to help with a short story that i'm writing. Truly amazing the influence that disco had! Well worth a read for anyone who likes their music history or just wants to get down🕺

Not to worry if you dont like them. You can always just Blame it on the Bookie 😉
