Murder on the Celtic
Murder on the Celtic: A Mystery | Conrad Allen
5 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
George Porter Dillman and Genevieve Masefield have crossed the Atlantic Ocean numerous times in their capacity as ships detectives for many of the huge passenger lines of the early twentieth century. On several of those crossings theyve had the pleasure, and in some cases the trouble, of sailing with some very famous passengers. Dukes. Duchesses. Artists. Actors. Musicians. Kings and queens from exotic foreign lands. They have even broken bread aboard ship with J. P. Morgan. But few names have quite the level of fame and fortune as their fellow traveler on this particular ocean crossing aboard the Celtic: Theyll be sailing with none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of the most famous detective in the world, Sherlock Holmes. As the two excellent investigators encounter the usual array of card sharps, cat burglars, drug smugglers, and crooked passengers of all kinds, will the famous writer help them---or hinder them?

The final book in George Dillman/Genevieve Masefield series. Set in the 1920s, our main pair are married private detectives on the White Star Line. In this installment there are thefts, a murder, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle aboard and a medium who conducts séances. As always , it was well written and very enjoyable. I will miss spending time with George and Genevieve.

My first finish for #20in4 and #Sharreadathon

This was light and frothy and I finished it in a single morning. Some dialogue with Arthur Conan Doyle was a bit awkward and info-dumpy, but overall this was a great read. Now to read the other 7 books in the series.

Someone left a review in the back of my library's copy of this book -- a typed review taped onto the blank back page, giving some thoughts and explaining the reviewer's personal interest in the history behind the book. Much better than writing things in the margins!
