Set in 1952, 3 women go to Nevada to take the “Reno Cure” where women would go live in Reno for 6 weeks in order to establish residency & get an uncontested divorce.

I had a hard time whittling this year's best reads down to twelve. These are all the amazing runners up, in no order whatsoever, that almost made the cut.

This is a story about hope, redemption, female friendships, motherhood, marriage, and strength. I was fascinated to learn about 'the Reno Cure" as I'd never heard about that little slice of history. The story did devolve into farce for a few chapters but overall it was quite enjoyable.

Two wealthy, older society matrons travel together to Reno to live for 6 weeks so they can be granted divorces. Along the way, they adopt a younger woman and her small daughter going for the same reason. This is a book about friendship, love, rebuilding, and reinvention. What I liked best was learning about “The Reno Cure” where women would go live in Reno, Nevada for 6 weeks in order to establish residency & get an uncontested divorce. Set in 1952, 3 women follow #TheCallOfDestiny (one more reluctantly than the others) to new lives in a time when it wasn‘t easy to take a different path than the happily ever after they expected. I just finished a book that took me forever and that I didn‘t much like so I‘m going to choose a lighter looking one to open next. Fingers crossed I enjoy it loads more than the last one!

A current read for a book tour review this week with today‘s finished soup-my lunch & #soupersundays blog post. This is (Not) Chicken Enchilada Soup from Eating Well, subbing in jackfruit for the chicken to make it meat free. It‘s really good, as is the book so far. I had not heard of women in the ‘40s & ‘50s taking the “Reno cure”-staying in Reno, Nevada for 6 weeks to get a fast divorce. I like historical fiction that teaches me something.🤓
