The planet is overwrought, overcrowded, and overcooked. Now the world looks to one, final summit of the world's most powerful people to save humanity. Then this guy gets invited... Professor Magnus Adams has failed at literature, at love, and, it seems, at life. After inexplicably receiving an invitation to a gathering of the world's most influential one-percenters, he finds himself harassed by anonymous text messages from someone who seems to know his most shameful secrets. Against the backdrop of a Trumpian world sliding into irrevocable catastrophe, Magnus grapples with technocrats and terrorists, cosmic horror and crushing hangovers as he tries to discover the identity of his tormentor. But little does Magnus know that there?s much more at stake than his precarious sanity.

Pickpick

The relatively brief novel is very nicely written, kinda weird, and utterly not what I was expecting! And it's also kinda fabulous & has grown on me even since I finished it & I'm still thinking about it! It features the fictional poet Nicholas Crooke, who is hilarious and hideous, and has an ending that is full of fatalistic hope that I was slightly, and pleasantly stunned. Really didn't think I was going to like this & ended up loving it!

Today's selection is this one. Randomly selected, I'm not sure it's really what I need right now. It's like craving The Little House on the Prairie and getting The Road! But I will give it a go....

BTW - happy Friday, fellow Littens!

Mehso-so

This book is great if you like a little technology with your sci-fi. Or a little sci-fi with your technology? Whatever. The writing style is very matter-of-fact & seems to get down to the point rather quickly. The only thing I didn't really like was the roller coaster. It takes you up but never really reaches climax before it drops you again. This book is very well written and I would indeed recommend it to others who are interested in the genre.

tournevis The synopsis makes it read more like anticipation with cli-fi sauce than actual sf. Might be why it felt jarring. 5y
BeansPage @tournevis yes it isn't actually a Sci-Fi but it has sci-fi elements in it. I don't really know what exactly to classify this book as. But I would still recommend this book to people who do like the Sci-Fi genre. 5y
tournevis @TheReadingMermaid Like I said, it's Anticipation, not sf. Anticipation is a genre. 5y

BeansPage @tournevis it is? Oh my! Learning something new here 😃 5y
tournevis @TheReadingMermaid It's not well-known or anything, because you'll never see it tagged in a bookstore, say, but it's an accepted term to describe this type of text. Like cli-fi or solar punk, which are a thing. But it's not always easy to distinguish. Most people just think future = sf and that's fine. 5y
BeansPage @tournevis you are fabulous my dear! thank you so much for this information and for educating me. I really do appreciate it ❤️😘🤗😘❤️ 5y
