Culhwch and Olwen
Culhwch and Olwen: Arthurian Classics | Anonymous
1 post | 1 read
The full, ancient text: Culhwch and Olwen.Culhwch and Olwen is an ancient Welsh story dating back to the 11th century, though it survives (in complete form) from the Red Book of Hergest (cerca 1400). Its author is anonymous, and it is also the longest of early Welsh tales. It is notable for being one of the earliest stories involving King Arthur in a clearly fictional capacity. Many elements of the story, including major Arthurian characters like Kai (Sir Kay), are first introduced in this story.

Pickpick

It‘s a story written with a very repetitive pattern, so it can get overwhelming. There is one long list of names and another of demands. Nonetheless, it is definitely readable if you know what to expect. It is believed to be the earliest Arthurian tale or, at least, the earliest we have access to. I personally enjoy it both for its story and for its historical value. Some names are hilarious!
