Leeds, 1822. When Simon Westow's friend Davey Ashton is arrested for sedition, he is determined to clear his name. But Davey's not the only one who needs Simon's help - another man has been 'hocussed' by a mysterious young woman. Simon and his assistant Jane encounter murder, lies and betrayal as they attempt to save Davey and find the hocus girl.

The second book in the Simon Westow mystery series. Set in Leeds during 1822 the story is enjoyable and unfolds at a reasonable pace. It is not a detetective novel and I wouldn't class it as a crime mystery but it does bring all of the characters to life, two of which will experience life changing events that may take the next Westow mystery down a different path. I would class this book as more of steady rather than a thrilling read.

Awoke at a silly time. 03.15am here in Fuerteventura and starting to read The Hocus Girl. Travelling back to the UK this afternoon only to return here in February when I pick up the keys for an apartment that I have just purchased in La Caleta on the rugged Atlantic Coast.
