Pickpick

A short play by DD Phiri, an author and historian from #Malawi who passed away earlier this year. Published in 1968.

This is the story of the young chief from a traditional village, who chooses a bride & is somewhat blindsided when she declares she wants a ‘democratic marriage‘. With themes of entitlement, respect, equality, democracy & listening to your young people (they have a point!) it feels disturbingly current. #readaroundtheworld
