Israel, the Diaspora, and Jewish Identity | Danny Ben-Moshe
3 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
Features: Investigates the significance, contribution, and role played by the State of Israel -- ideologically and practically -- in the identity of Diaspora Jews; Explores the extent and way Israel features in Diaspora identity through a range of issues including: anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, Jewish continuity and Israel visits, the peace process, pro-Israel lobbying, philanthropy, religious thought and gender; Examines the place of Israel in the identity of Jewish communities in eight countries and amongst the Israeli Diaspora; A unique feature of this volume is that each chapter is followed by short and insightful viewpoints by Israeli and Diaspora commentators, with the book reflecting a dialogue between these different voices from across the Jewish world.

Lots of families have mysteries that get swept under the rug and never discussed. Not all families have a son who wants to pull that mystery out, dust it off, and solve it. All while recording the relevant conversations. That's My Lost Family in a nutshell. It's short, sweet (but not saccharine), and worth listening to.

If you like true-life family relationships, dysfunction, and even genealogy, give this short audio a try.

The snow is coming down! So I‘m #audiopuzzling while I listen to an Audible Original called My Lost Family. I tagged another of the author‘s books b/c the AO story isn‘t in the database. #booked2020 #finishinaday

Cinfhen I listened to the audio / it was ok. Stay warm & safe indoors 🥰 4y
Cathythoughts The puzzle is really coming along 👍🏻❤️ 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @cathythoughts Thanks! It‘s just a small one. I‘ll start a bigger one tomorrow. But I had to give myself a chance to get back in the zone! Haven‘t done puzzles since last winter. 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen I liked it, but it was so short. I can‘t imagine going through what their family experienced. 4y

This is the sad and sometimes shocking and ugly story of what happened to a young Jewish woman and her family in London in the 1950s. As a fifteen year-old, Lilian married Raymond, had two children, and divorced when the children were three and two years old. Raymond came over to take the kids to park and the three of them disappeared. Forty years after the disappearance of her children, Lilian got a phone call and they were back in her life. Wow.
