Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Pickpick

Great first pick for #ChildrensClassicRead2022. This edition used the original illustrations from the 1920s, which were very atmospheric. This was the original version of the story, pre-Disney. It was fascinating to see what was considered appropriate for children's stories 100 years ago, compared to today. This version, with it's emphasis on what happens to "bad boys", is definitely trying to teach a morality lesson. Great pick, @TheBookHippie!

TheBookHippie It was very fascinating to me! I am so glad to have finally have read it. 2y
julieclair @TheBookHippie I had never read it either. Like most of us, I suspect, I'd only seen and read the Disney version. 2y
TheBookHippie @julieclair I imagine. I often find that I like the true story better. I understand the Disney rationale, I just prefer the original, seems more true to life to me. 2y
