Already the best novel I expect to read this year--the most devastating, too. Knowing North Dakota a little makes it more evocative, but how we slip in to feeling like we're right in the Dust Bowl is all Hudson's writing's doing. Indeed I won't be able to shake my sense of her characters (three-dimensional, bigoted, compassionate) nor stop worrying about matters beyond its pages for a good long time. Great American Novel territory.
