Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel (Tyme #1)
Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel (Tyme #1) | Megan Morrison

"Think you know Rapunzel's story? Think again, because the tower was only the beginning..." -- Jennifer Nielsen, New York Times bestselling author of THE FALSE PRINCE In all of Tyme, from the Redlands to the Grey, no one is as lucky as Rapunzel. She lives in a magic tower that obeys her every wish; she reads wonderful books starring herself as the heroine; her hair is the longest, most glorious thing in the world. And she knows this because Witch tells her so---her beloved Witch, who protects her from evil princes, the dangerous ground under the tower, even unhappy thoughts. Rapunzel can't imagine any other life. Then a thief named Jack climbs into her room to steal one of her enchanted roses. He's the first person Rapunzel's ever met who isn't completely charmed by her (well, the first person she's met at all, really), and he is infuriating-- especially when he hints that Witch isn't telling her the whole truth. Driven by anger at Jack and her own nameless fears, Rapunzel descends to the ground for the first time, and finds a world filled with more peril than Witch promised ... and more beauty, wonder, and adventure than she could have dreamed.

At times derivative (as in stealing devices from Tangled), at times clever, this one is tough to rate. It‘s long for MG, has parts that might be scary for younger readers (devouring children, kidnapping babies), definitely for older MG.

Rapunzel leaves her tower with Jack Beanstalker and travels through the land of Tyme. During their adventures she learns that Witch is not the loving mother she thought she was.

From 12-28-17: Worst Read of the Year. #decktheshelves I went through all of the books I read this year and I really enjoyed them all. This book is not a bad book but it was a bit long winded for a young reader. I read this with my daughter and while we enjoyed it, it was not our favorite. #️⃣2️⃣8️⃣ 📚👎🏼 @JoeStalksBeck @Tiffy_Reads

4-29-17: My daughter and I just finished this one. It is book 1 in the Tyme series. This book takes us on a journey through Tyme, with a very different Rapunzel, her hair is not magical and she knows nothing of the outside world, but her companion, Jack, yes Jack and the Beanstalk Jack, helps her navigate the land to save herself, the red fairies, Witch and Jack's sister. There are a lot of adventures that I don't want to give away! 👍🏼📚

i was not prepared for how thoughtful this very sweet and silly "fractured fairytale" would be. great for young readers who love Gail Carson Levine and Shannon Hale.
