Leon Russell In His Own Words (Softcover)
Leon Russell In His Own Words (Softcover) | Leon Russell
4 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
A fascinating treasure trove of never-before-published material, written byt the Master of Space and Time himself. Delving into an extensive file of interviews given by Leon's friends and fellow musicians, editors Steve Todoroff and John Wooley have taken Russell's remembrances and enhanced them with the words of many who were with him during those years. The result is a one-of-a-kind book that uniquely captures the kaledoscopic rock 'n' roll scenes of the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s, giving it all to us in the voice of a music legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer...with a little hlp from his friends!

Hachette Books is publishing a book sanctioned by Russell‘s family. I couldn‘t be more excited! I pre-ordered and anxiously await its arrival. A man who still has not received enough attention for what he contributed musically to so many artists.

kspenmoll Oh thanks! I love his work! 14mo

I gave this book 5 stars mainly because it brought Leon just a tiny bit closer. It required that I spend time going to Spotify because of all the great artists & songs that I had to listen to again, it required that I purchase two DVDs of performances, one of which I knew nothing about 🔼, & it took me hours to read a book that in most cases would only take an hour at most. Sadly, it left so much out and was never finished by Russell. I miss him.

Suet624 Elton John‘s speech inducting Russell into the Hall of Fame. So touching. https://youtu.be/qxlu7WWnyNM 🔽 (edited) 2y
Suet624 Joe Cocker came to the US with no band. Leon Russell pulled together a carnival of chaos & fantastic music to back him up. These are 2 of my favorite videos of that period. Russell was the band leader & you can see him lead the musicians in this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-407iUd_pFY&list=RD-407iUd_pFY&start_radio=1 (continued...) 2y
Suet624 The 2nd, Space Captain, shows the size of the group. The timing is a bit off though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tjs3zvvnDEY It's the piano playing and his quiet command of the group that so impresses me. (edited) 2y

Nute Awesome post! First, I am going to listen to Tight Rope in my own music collection on my iPod. Next I am going to watch Elton John‘s speech inducting Leon Russell into the Hall of Fame for Rock and Roll. Then I am going to follow all of your leads, Sue! Thank you for sharing!☺️ 2y
Suet624 @Nute Oh, thank you so much for humoring me. Leon is a mad crush of mine. I literally start each day listening/watching him sing one song. Here is something I JUST found. Like a miracle. A recording of a concert to listen to which is much more quiet but the sound/mix is spectacular. So if you just want to listen while you putter, here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmKubqp1S8E 2y
Nute I love music! You have made my day!!!🤗 2y

This book that I purchased two years ago, that I was sooo excited to read, has sat on my shelf ever since it arrived. I thought this was a good short book to read. Here‘s the problem with it: he played with everyone and he‘s bringing up memories that I just have to listen to again. Artists I‘ve long forgotten. He talks about this one event that was televised in 1964 and of course I had to watch the whole dang thing. Some of you might like it. 🔽

Suet624 https://youtu.be/OODJDdIbkF4 So many musicians from the ‘60‘s. (edited) 2y
Leftcoastzen 😆laughing because of your deadline! 2y

tenar Thank you for linking this show! I watched the first ten minutes, stopped it, got my parents together, and we watched the whole thing together. It was a nice evening, thanks to you! 2y
Suet624 @tenar that‘s fantastic and it makes me so happy!!! 2y
Nute Stacking! 2y
Suet624 @Nute Just a warning. It reallly leaves so much out. But I was delighted to spend some time with him and his stories about being legitimately mistaken for Jesus are pretty funny. 2y
Nute I already anticipate a good time!🤗 2y

Suet624 @Reggie This post was from 2 years ago and you said you didn't know of Leon. I'm sharing this video with you of him playing with Joe Cocker. Leon is the piano player. I love the way he sounds on this. He is also the orchestra/chorus/band leader. You'll notice him directing them more at the end of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-407iUd_pFY&list=FLZgKZI_0lVG5XFkc2Luap1Q&index=...
