Stern 111: Roman | Lutz Seiler
12 posts | 2 read | 1 to read

Pickpick

My second read since it came out two years ago, during that strange first Covid spring. Which is peculiar because I don‘t normally reread books. There is just something about Seiler‘s prose that keeps sucking me in, even if Stern‘s story isn‘t quite as strong as Kruso‘s. I enjoyed every page of it and, weirdly enough, identified with completely different characters this time.

This bail makes me a little bit sad. I so much liked “Kruso” as audiobook. I am beginning to think that maybe I am too impatient and not willing enough to engage. On the one hand. On the other hand, I am reading for pleasure and not to fight my way through books that I hope I will finish and then like despite of the effort I had with them.

Additionally I found myself thinking that there are quite many parallels with “Kruso” in here. So: 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Bailedbailed

Already when I spotted this at my library I was sceptical that Lutz Seiler for me is an author to be read. I am such a person. Some books I can only read as audiobooks. This is one of them. In reading I just feel no connection with that searching protagonist Carl and the bunch of squatters that adopt him. It‘s all just unrealistic and boring to me. Bail at p. 125 of 551.

But be sure, when I find the audiobook it will get another chance‼️😍

“Like his parents, he had no address in mind, he had left without a goal, only with some fantasy in his head that one could not live with.” (p. 30)

⬆️⬆️⬆️ That‘s the writing style I love. Typically Seiler.

I have such yummy things to eat. A poppyseed roll, plum marmalade and loads of curd. But I may not eat any of it before 3 more hours have passed by because of the medication that I need to take on Thursdays. 😩 That‘s the part of Thursdays that sucks.

So I stick with my black coffee ☕️ – lucky me that I also like black coffee 😅 – and hope to be captivated by my book.

Sace If I couldn't have coffee I'd probably not follow doctor's orders 😂 4y

My original plan was, after having finished reading today‘s newspaper that my mum has brought me, to continue the tagged book. I started it yesterday and I think, I like it.

Pretty much recognise the authors voice. The protagonist also is quite similar to Edgar from „Kruso”. Both books are set during the Turnaround-era, which I am not sure will carry another plot …

But, you know, before I can pick this up again, I need to cook. I‘m _hungry_.

“And next to the plate the regular morning paper notice of his mother:

»Dear Carl! Good luck for your physics test. Concentrate well and avoid carelessness! Please light a fire when you come home, and don‘t forget the ashes ...«"

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Textmessages in times of The Turnaround. But: Who‘s careless on purpose❓? anyway, am I the only one who‘s writing text messages with her mother every morning and every day after work❓

Let‘s start this.

I already love the quote on the front page

„»I am twenty-eight,
and almost nothing has happened.«

Rainer Maria Rilke, The Records of Malte Brigge“

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

Thanks @RamsFan1963 – I didn‘t grow up with Halloween so I can‘t deliver good answers.

Where I live in Germany, we go in costumes when it‘s “Carnival” in February. I remember I loved my Native American costume and my Harlequin costume and especially the make-up my uncle made me when I was a Clown. 🤡

I also wasn‘t so much into “creepy” books. But I loved 🇩🇪 „Der kleine Vampir“ on TV.

AmyG Thanks for the tag! 4y
Deifio Ach Der kleine Vampir! 4y

Still did not make it to start this new Lutz Seiler even though I am really looking forward to it. 🤷🏽‍♀️ It‘s weekend and I preferred some togetherness with my significant other. 😊

But the newsletter with next week‘s Free Daily‘s on German Blinkist just dropped in. And since it was a good experience to not miss titles that seem interesting to me by making a list last week, I decided to plan my next Blinkist-week. Clever me. 😂

🐐👍 (Actually an absolutely impressive read, thought-provoking and poetic, intimate and relevant.)

Oh, and now that I know that Lutz Seiler has a new book [*] that shall tie on directly (to) his debut „Kruso“ – guess what … 🤭

But to be honest, I think, I wouldn‘t have liked „Kruso“ as physical book, seems it only worked for me as audiobook. So it might be the same with this one.

[*] I had heard something on the radio, recently, but then it seemingly simply flashed by without having had further impact on me. 🤷🏽‍♀️
