How we get 8000 kids to the parade https://www.instagram.com/reels/audio/615125680636944

My daughter working in her Dutch costume and marched with my grandson today.

I avoid the 3 million people who descend on our town by staying home! - the last 94 years, millions of people have gathered to enjoy Tulip Time The festival is an eight-day with over six million tulips

TheBookHippie Of course per usual it was 80🥵
Yes we just recently had snow
No worries it‘s cold again next week 🤦🏻‍♀️

Bookwormjillk Sounds like me with our cherry blossoms. They‘re pretty but I can‘t take the crowds. 11mo
TheBookHippie @Bookwormjillk my daughter is the Admin Assistant for the middle school so she has no choice -thus she just goes with my grandson 👀🥵😂😅 she looks 12 here 🤣 I marched for 25 years -I retired from marching 😮‍💨😵‍💫. It‘s tooooo many peoples. 11mo
IndoorDame I definitely would‘ve avoided that many people too!!! But it looks awesome, tulips and my favorite! 11mo

TheBookHippie Yes we sew Dutch costumes to a specification that must be met in order to be in parade thankfully I have a seamstress friend. They cost in the hundreds to buy from seller 🤯

kspenmoll So beautiful! Hose sounds perfect! 2y
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll seriously! I packed them frozen water bottles and frozen fruit! It‘s just bonkers. We had snow less than a month ago! 2y
GingerAntics He looks exhausted/completely out in that bottom right corner there. 2y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics bus ride home they still had to do school 8-11 it‘s a long day for an 8 year old! 2y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie good lord why?! Poor kid! 2y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics all kids k-5 and all band kids… it is. 🥵🌷 2y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie that‘s stupid 2y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics Tradition 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics use to be mandatory for all kids until a set of parents sued the school district and now it‘s optional for public school kids city wide. Christian schools it probably still is 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie oh good grief. Traditionally, students didn‘t take pointless tests that just made testing companies rich. No one is concerned with that tradition. 🙄 2y

About one million tourists visit Tulip Time each year

This is what they come to see FYI.

It was a good year for tulips this year.

The Netherlands is among the most liberal countries in the world

My town is the polar opposite of that to an extreme last time they voted for a democrat was 1864 so they could vote against Lincoln...

A little background. Yes it‘s pretty to look it.
IF you don‘t live here.

My social justice fight continues ❤️

Prairiegirl_reading Oh my 😢 4y
TheBookHippie @Prairiegirl_reading My sentiment daily .. 4y
CarolynM That must be hard. I am so grateful for where I live. 4y

JaclynW I'm in a similar city. I feel so out of place. It is often aggravating. 4y

Our town has a tulip festival every year that I do not attend, it was canceled the first time in 90 years this year...anyway we put the grandbaby in the required Dutch costume and my daughter schlept him to the tulips to snap pictures🌷 they picked purple ones for me, they didn‘t pick any it‘s a crime here 🤣🤣 oye vey. We have now performed a societal norm for living in this place 👦🏼🌷

OrangeMooseReads I was sad to hear that the Tulip Festival was cancelled. 4y
TheBookHippie @OrangeMooseReads I avoid it like the plague 🤣 but people enjoy it. It‘s like anything if you don‘t live here it‘s probably fun. I live north of it all thank goodness, it ties up traffic horrifically all over. 4y
audraelizabeth The 4h camp in my county is canceled this year which i believe is the first time in 98 years. 4y

OrangeMooseReads @TheBookHippie I don‘t ever go to either far too many people for my liking. I had a friend from Holland that did Dutch Dance, but still I never went. It‘s good for the economy of the area though. 4y
AmyK1 I‘ve been there once-when I was pregnant with my son. He‘ll be 21 next month 😂 Of course we don‘t live anywhere near there now... 4y
TheBookHippie @AmyK1 I‘m here 5 more years then I am leaving ... 4y
AmyK1 We left MI 14 years ago and have no intention of moving back. We do make the trip to visit family-but only one the summer 😂 4y
TheBookHippie @OrangeMooseReads Sooooo many people 😳😱 4y
TheBookHippie @audraelizabeth I imagine most summer camps will close. It‘s just mind boggling all of it. 4y
audraelizabeth @TheBookHippie Probably it was the hilight of my summer as a kid. 4y
TheBookHippie @AmyK1 there aren‘t words in any language to describe how much I loathe it here .... this is the longest I‘ve been in my town at one time ever ... I jump the train to Chicago OFTEN so I can BREATHE. Oye. 🤣 4y
AmyK1 lol I love Chicago. I never lived in Holland. But I‘m from a small town in Northern MI, went to WMU and lived in GR for 9 years. 4y
TheBookHippie @AmyK1 GR isn‘t too bad. I just need to get out of the alt right religious cult like people en masse that live here.. as a feminist social justice hippie fighting for the common good its a little difficult 😳 4y
OrangeMooseReads I lived in GR for 20ish years, Man Cub was born there, and I will NEVER EVER live there again. My family lives in a tiny rural town in the thumb area and I lived there for a few years and went to high school there, lived there again after Man Cub was born I will NEVER live there again either. We are north of GR now and it‘s not terrible. 4y
TheBookHippie @OrangeMooseReads solidarity 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏻🙌🏻 4y
Hooked_on_books The color on those is gorgeous 😍 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The flowers are beautiful but I don't know if I'd take a pilgrimage just to see them. 😁 Do you have your eye on an area you'd like to move to in 5 years? 4y
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick A city with access to Ocean and no alt right religious zealots is my snarky answer. However big city near ocean -east or west coast -no Florida no southern states . 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Sounds like a great plan, snarky or not! 4y
