Radical Wordsworth: The Poet Who Changed the World
Radical Wordsworth: The Poet Who Changed the World | Jonathan Bate
2 posts | 1 read
Published in time for the 250th anniversary of William Wordsworth's birth, this is the biography of a great poetic genius, a revolutionary who changed the world. This beautifully written biography is purposefully fragmentary, momentary, and selective, opening up what Wordsworth called "the hiding-places of my power."

The Romantic poets loomed large in my teenage imagination, but I‘m learning now that kids today don‘t know or care about them. Keats has been my ride or die Romantic writer, but I was curious about the less-cool first generation of poets. This was a lovely biography of Wordsworth who wrote the world‘s first epic autobiographical poem! His writings on nature, imagination, sensibility, and the sublime influenced all modern thought!! 🏔 🌳

Jonathan's talk on Wordsworth from Hay Digital Festival may be of interest to us, especially the q & a at the end.
