On Love and Death
On Love and Death | Patrick Suskind
7 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
In this inspiring meditation, Patrick S|skind considers the two great forces of human existence. He draws on scenes as varied as a young couple having oral sex while stuck in traffic, and an elderly Thomas Mann tumbling back into forbidden love. S|skind then dazzles as he writes about Orpheus and Jesus, comparing their very different stories of death conquered through love.

Pickpick

Wonderfully irreverent essay! I loved the part about love and was disappointed by death when it started. Then Süskind talked about Jesus and Orpheus and all was right with the world. This was my second book for #24in48

Loved the part about love. Wasn't enjoying death until Süskind gave his take on the biblical story of Jesus and Lazarus. ??? #24in48

Knisley mentioned Suskind's The Perfume in French Milk, my first book for #24in48 and it inspired me to pick up this essay as my second book.
