In the present, Lizzie is best friends with Dudley whose wife Amelia dies by falling down a flight of stairs. In the 16th century, Amy, wife of Elizabeth I's "favorite," Lord Dudley, dies by falling down stairs. Can a few characters with paranormal gifts break the pattern? This requires great suspension of disbelief but I enjoyed it.

The mystery of the death of Amy Robsart is one of the most puzzling mysteries in English history. We may never know what really happened but Nicola Cornick writes a very believable story. She brings life to the characters that only exist now in ink on paper. It is an time-slip novel, the writing is smooth, it captivates and entertains, it‘s a tale of life, loss, love, betrayal, and mystery, with a sliver of magic.

Mehso-so

Amy Dudley was the wife of Robert Dudley, “favorite” of Queen Elizabeth I. In 1560, Amy fell to her death but the details are a mystery. I appreciate that this author gave her a POV, but ultimately I find myself a little “meh” with the story. It started slowly, picked up around the middle, and then the end felt jumbled and...not what I was looking for in a story compared to the sweeping historical fictions of Philippa Gregory.
