I‘m using this middle grades graphic novel for a grades 4-6 book club at the library this summer. Gotta keep this kids reading on their break! It‘s a cute story about a film crew that takes over Martha‘s Vineyard and an unlikely friendship amongst a few kids. #booked2022 ~weather term in the title

I think this will be our July graphic novel choice for the grades 4-6 book club this summer. It takes place on Martha‘s Vineyard. A movie is being filmed on the island and there‘s a film fest for kids. An unlikely group forms to create a documentary about the history of a retired sea captain and the history of the island as they interview the “islanders” and form a friendship bond with plenty of bumps along the way.

Where did Saturday go? #Screamathon Review Catch Up

I totally picked this up based on the cover and title. A Hollywood crew has come to the island for the summer to film a movie about a shark. 🦈 There is a youth film contest as well. Gayle and her new friends, Elijah and Maddie, set out to uncover the island‘s own secret shark story and win the prize money. I enjoyed this one. It was a little dark and the ending was a little rushed.

Okay group. Here is what I currently have available. If none of these look good, I can buy some others. I do have a list. 😜

The first one is tagged. I'll tag the others below.

I knew from the end pages that this book was for me. I like MG friendship stories and I LOVE horror movies. The ending felt a bit too Pat, but otherwise a pick. Looking forward to my 10 y.o.‘s review.

Mehso-so

Unfortunately, I didn‘t love this MG graphic novel debut from Marcks. The premise is ok—a group of friends enter a film contest and uncover an island mystery in the process—but the book really didn‘t work for me. I didn‘t like the art, though the color are ok, & found it off-putting enough it was distracting. The writing was problematic too—the kids often sounded more like adults than kids. On sale 5/21.
