Happy Endings: A Novel | Thien-Kim Lam
6 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
With her debut novel, Thien-Kim Lam serves up a sexy second-chance romance about exes with unfinished business. When working together reignites their passion, will these former flames sizzle or get burned all over again? Trixie Nguyen is determined to make her sex toy business a success, proving to her traditional Vietnamese parents that she can succeed in a nontraditional career. She's made a fresh start in Washington DC, and her first pop-up event is going welluntil she runs into the ex who dumped her. With a Post-it note. The last person Andre Walker expected to see in his soul food restaurant was the woman he left behind in New Orleans. Their chemistry is still scorching, but he's desperately trying to save his family restaurant from gentrifying developers. The solution? Partnering with his ex to turn Mama Hazels into a vibrator pop-up shop for hungry and horny clients. Thanks to their steamy truce, both businesses start to sizzle and their red-hot desire soon reignites deeper feelings. But when Trixie receives an incredible career opportunity, will pride ruin their second chance at happiness?

Mehso-so

The writing is exposition-heavy, and as a Coeliac I didn't love the frequent jibes about gluten-free restaurants, but other than that, Happy Endings was a delight to read. The blurb maybe overstates the stakes a little (they‘re comfortingly low), and there‘s a cast of supportive, empowering characters that keep the mood up. A promising #ownvoices debut with an admirable female lead, sex positivity, and fierce female friendship. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My full review is on my blog Carpe Diem Chronicles.

Not for me. This steamy second chance romance had good points & I enjoyed the first part, but it fell apart toward the end. I loved Trixie, the bad ass female lead who sold vibrators & empowered women. I did not like Andre. He was controlling & selfish, not what I want from a romantic lead. I decided to bail on this one, but I‘ll probably try reading her next book. This had promise.

Anyway, here‘s my kitty.

Not quite what I expected, in both good and less good ways! I loved that Trixie wasn't an archetype I'd seen before, and her circle of friends was excellent. I was less enamored with Andre, though - wish we had gotten a little more growth for him before the end! If you like a truly sexy story, though, this is for you. #romcom #contemporaryromance

I‘m giving this a pick because there is a lot to like about this story. It‘s funny, Trixie is a badass sex toy seller, the friends are amazing and the romance is good. However Andre is the biggest idiot ever and I could have done without some of that.
