This one was fun.

Three people argue about the so-called “inheritance-by-kill”, and Judge Dee has to determine who really killed the unfortunate count, so one of them can inherit the count's castle. Shenanigans and a bloodbath ensue.

A bit out of order, but I figured already these short stories are pretty much standalone—each giving us a glimpse into the vampire's discordant, in many ways pathetic “society”—and can be read in any order.

3.75/5

Zoes_Human I find the Judge Dee stories absolutely charming. 12mo

I'm getting such a kick out of Judge Dee! A vampire judge who solves mysteries with an oaf-ish familiar tagging along. The second of several planned releases through tor.com
