Recorriendo el espacio en una pequea nave, depende de l acabar con una amenaza de extincin para nuestra especie. Sin apenas tiempo y con el ser humano ms cercano a aos luz de distancia, habr de conseguirlo estando completamente solo. O no? Proyecto Hail Mary, una aventura interestelar irresistible como solo Andy Weir poda imaginar, es una historia de descubrimiento, especulacin y supervivencia a la altura de El marciano, que nos lleva a lugares que nunca soamos alcanzar. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A lone astronaut must save the earth from disaster in this incredible new science-based thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Martian. "A novel that would have delighted Robert A. Heinlein and Isaac Asimov."--George R.R. Martin, author of A Game of Thrones"Weir's finest work to date . . . the one book I read last year that I am certain I can recommend to anyone, no matter who, and know they'll love it."--Brandon Sanderson, author of the Stormlight Archive series Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission--and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company. His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it's up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery--and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species. And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he's got to do it all alone. Or does he? An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian--while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

Thank you for taggig me @The_Penniless_Author ❤ We've had an important appoinment yesterday, that's why I only can answer the questions now.

1) Usually, we just have a lovely dinner at home and enjoy each other's company. For this upcoming Valentine's Day I only wish for my wife to be back home as safe and sound as possible.

2) Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I love the friendship in this book.

#SciBreakthrough OK, the science breakthroughs in this book may be fiction, but between the scientists of Earth & Erid, there were lots of breakthroughs to save the planets. 🪐 🌍 This is a relatively new book for me, finished in November & one of my favorites in 2023. 🖤

My husband and I started Project Hail Mary as our road trip book. It‘s a lot of science, but he‘s a physicist, so if I need anything explained, I‘ve got a ready resource. It was warm enough today to walk in a short sleeved shirt, so I continued with The Fairytale Life of Dorothy Gale. #audiowalk

And this is why I wait for the last moment to pick my top books of the year!!

I LOVED this book! Yes things were a bit too convenient from time to time, but I completely feel for Grace, Rocky, and even the rock hard emotionless get it done Stratt.

This book was so funny, and unlike other "lit" books it doesn't over explain STEM to the reader so the reading experience is more pleasant.

I really have a hard time with this guy‘s writing style, but he is a master storyteller and I‘m a sucker for solid science. I loved this. A Ppesent day threat to earth propels at least one unlikely astronaut into space to look for a solution. Fun read! Coming out as a movie with Ryan Gosling as the hero!

Finished earlier in the week, I finally made the time to listen to the audiobook & I LOVED it! The narration was stellar (despite my being slightly weirded out that the narrator sounded EXACTLY like an old coworker of mine) & it drew me into the story. Loved the humor, heart, science & humanity combination & it even had me all teary at the end. For sure on my top reads of 2023. 🖤💛🖤

I managed to finish it before discussion day! I was surprised how quickly and completely I got sucked into this story, especially as it has components I don‘t usually like: being dropped into the story with no idea what‘s going on, lots of flashbacks, and present tense narration. But they all had a point and made the story so great! #LitsySciFiBookClub #lsfbc

Such a great story. The perfect balance between science and story that drew me in. It was absorbing and fast paced. Ryland, the MC, was well developed but I really loved Rocky. Sci-Fi like this just doesn't come around often and I need more like this.

I listened to this as the September selection for the #LitsySciFiBookClub but I didn‘t finish until October 1st. Oh, well. I am so glad I listened to this book! It was entertaining and compelling. The narrator WAS Ryland Grace. And he is one of the few male narrators, probably the best I‘ve heard, who does women‘s voices well. Run to your library or book store and pick up this book now, if you haven‘t already. I‘m behind most of you.

TheSpineView It is a great book. I still have not started my reread but I did pick up the audio version. Your review makes me glad I did. ❤️📖🎧 6mo
Liatrek Loved the audio❤️ 6mo
CatLass007 @TheSpineView I‘m glad you‘re going to listen to it this time. For some reason I was hesitant about this author, maybe because he seemed to be “the next big thing.” But he deserves the acclaim if this is the quality with which he always writes. I‘m going to do my best to read his other books as well. Do you know when we‘ll be voting on the selection for October? I‘m kind of impatient to listen to another new author. Or revisit an old friend. 6mo

CatLass007 I actually had to stop listening for a while when I thought Rocky had sacrificed his life to save Grace. It came as such a huge shock. 💔 But as in much science fiction he died… and then he got better. ❤️‍🩹 6mo
TheSpineView I was planning on taking suggestions towards the end of the week. Then voting the following week. 6mo
CatLass007 @TheSpineView I don‘t really have any suggestions or requests. I am trying to listen to SF books already in my library, and I‘m awfully picky about reading books in the order they were written or were intended to be read. I have almost every book in the Dune Saga, the same goes for the Ender Saga. I have a number, but not all, of books by Connie Willis and David Brin. There are more books in my Audible wish list than I care to remember. (cont)⬇️ 6mo
CatLass007 @TheSpineView So, I will be happy to listen to any books, both by old friends and new. Just sign me up! 6mo

Absolutely loved this! Fairly similar to The Martian in some ways but think you can how Andy Weir has developed as a writer. Made me properly emotional at a few points as well as being very very funny in parts. Up there with some of my favourite sci-fi novels!

I hadn‘t read The Martian but enjoyed the movie. This book came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was not what I expected but better than I could have hoped for. The great story telling and thorough science explanations along the way made this feel real instead of just a story. Looking forward to checking out more of his work. Fist Bump.

Imagine you are a middle school science teacher and one day you wake up you are on a spaceship and you don't know why, you don't even know your name and as your memories slowly return you understand the improbability of your task, you are on a mission to save the Earth from an extinction-level event.

I won't spoil too much.

Not only this book had me on a chokehold (can't breathe with the twists and turns) 👇

thevagabondlawyer but it gave incandescent hope in my chest that no matter how messy humans can be there is still kindness, there is still laughter, there is still generosity, there is still emphaty, there is still friendship, there is still love.

The only book that I felt so happy feeling dumb, if that makes sense. It's weird. 👇
13mo
thevagabondlawyer Maybe half of the book I didn't understand (the scientific and quite complex explanation of everything from chemistry to physics to astronomy to biology), but I did not care. I was still engaged to read through. Hard science fiction but not off-putting. I would give anything to read this again for the first time. Andy Weir is now one of my favourite authors. 👊👏

I would recommend this if you enjoy science and engineering. Math and science are used to describe details in a way to up the ante for those who can understand the language. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people and I found myself missing out on more physical based action and tension. However, Project Hail Mary is a good book, it just isn't the book for me.

Listen to the audiobook, I tell you, it‘s so much better that way. Saying why exactly would be a spoiler, so I won‘t, but there‘s an in-universe reason; also, great production value.

This book is all I wished The Martian to be.

catsuit_mango If done right, the spoiler things must be nice in audiobook.... Too bad any audiobook sample won't have those parts ! 1y
eol @catsuit_mango it's too far into the game, I think. But it's done really well. They gave it this polyphonic, musicky feeling. And the wordless sounds - like surprise, delight, or sadness - are good, too. 1y
catsuit_mango @eol makes me want to listen to it now... I've seen there might be a movie but between that and the rest, I'd probably be disappointed ;) 1y

Read this for book club. If you like over the top ridiculous science in your science fiction this is the book for you. All sciences are mentioned and “simple” science is explained including chemistry, physics, biology, astronomy and more. Almost quit a few times because there is a lot of science. But it ends well and nice story of humanity uniting and making sacrifices to save multiple solar systems.

This one is a bit of a ham, both in size and execution. There are parts that are really good and gripping, but plenty that reads like a grade eight science project; (review continues in comments)

Creadnorthey a protagonist skill set that defies even this Speculative Fiction, moments where even this science neophyte says why do that and not this, plenty of America is greater even while part of the international team, and a frat-boy narrative voice that screams cast me using the hippest up-and-coming actor in the movie version. I got sucked into this by Obama and Bill Gates Goodreads recommendation bots- beware! (edited) 2y

I really like this author's writing, it's humorous, fun and fast paced. I loved 'The Martian' but this one was too deep into the science for me to understand the value. The story itself was good and enjoyable. If you can get beyond the science (or enjoy it) you will like this book.

Since I‘m practically the last person ever to read/listen to this…all I really need to say is pretty much everything you‘ve ever heard about this book is true. It does have a lot of scientific elements to it…lot‘s of math…but the story is oddly heartwarming and if you‘ve read this you know exactly what I‘m talking about. There are parts to this story that are so good that it more than makes up for any boredom I had with the sciencey crap.
