The Toast of Time
The Toast of Time | Jodi Taylor
7 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
Once again, the Toast of Time falls butter side down. Dr 'Max' Maxwell prepares for her very first Christmas away from St Mary's... It's that most wonderful time of the year once more. But Max and Markham are a long way from St Mary's. What sort of Christmas will it be without their loved ones? Settle down with a mince pie and a small sherry and prepare for an unlikely combination of Flying Auctions, Faberg eggs, duped Time Police officers, the Parish Council, a TWOCed Bentley (no, not that one), legendary swords and a belligerent ram. Will it be Peace and Goodwill to all men? Well, we all know the answer to that... Readers love Jodi Taylor: 'Once in a while, I discover an author who changes everything... Jodi Taylor and her protagonista Madeleine "Max" Maxwell have seduced me' 'A great mix of British proper-ness and humour with a large dollop of historical fun' 'Addictive. I wish St Mary's was real and I was a part of it' 'Jodi Taylor has an imagination that gets me completely hooked' 'A tour de force'

Catching up on my Litsyness this morning.

One last #12Booksof2021 with @Andrew65. My #December pick is the Annual Christmas Story from #ChroniclesofStMarys. I look forward to this present of a short story every Christmas morning.

And the #12Booksof2021 December pick. @Andrew65

It's a Chronicles of St Mary's Christmas Short Story, set between books 12 and 13 - does not work as a standalone. Downloaded it right after midnight on Christmas Day and read it twice before the day was out.

Crinoline_Laphroaig My December Pick too! 2y

I always enjoy this author‘s short story release on Christmas. It reminds me I need to read the whole series (I got them a couple years ago for Christmas). Unfortunately since I haven‘t kept up with the series I‘m a lot behind on some of the things going on in this story but it was still awesome.

This was brilliant!!! I'll put my favorite thing in the comments and mark it spoiler. But for now....‘St Mary‘s is like having the pox – you‘re never really free of it and it affects your life choices forever.' 🤣

Crinoline_Laphroaig "are you aware that today is actually . . .‘ I paused, all the better to build up the suspense, ‘World Naked Gardening Day? And yes, that is a thing. It‘s on Mrs Mack‘s calendar downstairs."

Crinoline_Laphroaig As a gardener I love that Jodi Taylor managed to include World Naked Gardening Day. It's the 1st Saturday in May. Every year some one either texts or tags me on Social Media about it. I always tell them the same things. 'Poison Ivy and Sunburnt Delicate Bits.' So when I read this scene I squealed in delight. 2y

The Chronicles of St Mary's Christmas Short Story was published today.

This time the illegal Christmas jump is different, in so many ways. Toast plays a major role. Eggs, too. Nuts and sausages and biscuits, as well.

Have you read it yet, @crinoline_laphroaig?

julesG @Crinoline_Laphroaig Stroke of genius, World Naked Gardening Day. No Poison Ivy in Europe and England in May, I suppose Evans' team was safe. 😁😁 I just knew Roland's sword would end up in Markham's trousers. I had actually hoped the eggs would 2y
julesG Whoops, pressed send to soon. Wanted to write, I had hoped the eggs would end up somewhere on his body, too. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @julesG it was just so fabulous! 2y
