Recovering from Your Car Accident
Recovering from Your Car Accident: The Complete Guide to Reclaiming Your Life | Dr. James F. Zender
1 post
Road traffic injuries are a neglected global pandemic. Up to 50 million people a year worldwide are injured or disabled in car accidents. The deleterious impact on the global economy is immense. Thousands of those injured die of opiate overdoses, trying to deal with chronic pain. The post-accident life of a survivor is all too often devastated by spinal or severe orthopedic injuries, depression, anxiety, PTSD, sleep disturbances, mild episodic or chronic pain, and/or a traumatic brain injury that can cause personality changes, cognitive and memory impairments, and debilitating fatigue. A substantially reduced quality of life with career changes and setbacks, broken and overstressed relationships, and financial hardships that continue for many years, often ensue. First Responders, healthcare providers, the survivors community and to the largest degree, the survivors family, are forced to deal with the staggering impacts. Auto accidents can dramatically alter lives, forever. Where do survivors and their families go for help? How do survivors heal and get their lives back? Everyone is desperate for hope and evidence-based solutions to manage disabling conditions and ultimately reclaim their lives. This is the first book to offer comprehensive, evidence-based information to both the survivors and their caregivers on understanding, managing, and healing physical and emotional traumas sustained in auto accidents. Based on James Zender's more than fifteen years experience as a clinical psychologist specializing in auto-accident trauma care, Recovering From Your Car Accident leads survivors and their families through the extensive process of emotional and physical recovery. With empathy and compassion, Dr. Zender explains how to conquer the multitude of challenges that often result from auto accidents, including managing pain, depression, and anxiety, addressing concerns about the future and finances, personality changes, emotional and cognitive dysfunction, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and strained personal relationships. Through stories recounted by Dr. Zender's patients, survivors will learn that they are not alone and that there is hope for a better tomorrow. Policymakers will gain insight into accident prevention and will be inspired to implement policy improvements to better meet the needs of the auto accident community. Helpful tips throughout this book and a resource section featuring the best online and community support options will aid survivors and their families with rehabilitation. Recovering from Your Car Accident will assist survivors with rebuilding their lives and discovering new ways to thrive.

On Monday morning, I was on my way to work... but the Universe had other plans.

A large SUV and truck had gotten into a collision as I was driving past and my poor little carrito 🚗 was the collateral damage. When the 1st vehicle hit the 2nd, the 2nd was pushed on to traffic, slamming into the rear of my car. All I saw was a flash of black and then *impact*!

Librariana (1 of 2) It's an odd feeling when the world seems to slow down and you just know something awful is about to happen. Not how I planned to start my day...

I'm physically somewhat alright, but shaken (I'm sure plenty of folks feel that way after an accident. Hyper-focused driving and all!) My body is letting me know in small ways that not everything is peachy, so a visit to the doctor for a check up is already scheduled and on the horizon.

Librariana (2 of 2) Glad to walk away unscathed, but boy is timing a funny thing. Puts things in perspective for certain. 2y
Reggie Ohhhh, I‘m so sorry to see this. I‘m glad you‘re ok. I just got my car back from a body shop after 5 weeks from when the right rear of my car was hit by a truck. So sorry and hope everything moves quickly for you. 2y

Librariana Oh, @Reggie! I'm so sorry to learn that you had a similar experience 😔 Hope you're doing alright and glad you have your car back! Mine is sitting at home, in our driveway, until parts come in and she can be scheduled to go into the shop. Thank you for your good wishes 💜🍀 I'm hopeful things can move along quickly as well! 2y
Librariana Oh, absolutely @TheSpineView! I'm very glad it wasn't worse and grateful my seat belt did its job! The car took the brunt of the impact and although unfortunate, I'm glad my timing wasn't worse or I could've ended up T-boned! 😳 So yes! Important to put things in perspective. 2y
Librariana @Soubhiville - Thank you so much, Soubhi! I'm very glad to be ok, too, and hopeful the doctor's visit will provide some answers/resolution/comfort? My back has definitely been complaining! 😜 2y
Librariana I'm right there with ya, @quietjenn! And I'm equally glad that this accident wasn't worse... that it didn't turn into a multiple vehicle pileup... that I didn't hit anyone else, etc. I'm glad I keep my distance from other cars, for sure! And glad there was a safe spot for me to pull over, etc. 2y
Librariana Me too, @DrexEdit! To be able to walk away from an accident is a blessing in and of itself! 2y
Librariana Thank you so much, @Librarybelle 😊 Me too, for sure! I know I *do* have my moments when I'm annoyed at the unfairness/inconvenience of it all, but I'm ok and very grateful the accident wasn't more severe. 2y
Librariana Thanks, @SamanthaMarie 💜😊 Will do! 2y
